Church's Response to Abortion
In the past few weeks, the Lord has been
speaking very strongly to us about the Church's response to the abortion issue
and our lack of compassion towards women who have had abortions.
Recently, this became very personal to me. In Redding, CA, I was preaching that
abortion will soon be outlawed and about the need for an adoption movement to
arise within the church. I felt that I was speaking with compassion and not
condemnation, yet a woman came up to me afterwards, weeping, and said, "I've got
friends who have had abortions. You have no idea what it's like." Her tears and
her rebuke have stayed with me, and I felt the Lord gripping my heart concerning
the issue of women's pain.
God is saying to the Church, "You Must Wear
the Scarlet Letter!"
Shortly after this, an intercessor from
South Dakota had one of the most profound prophetic dreams I've ever heard!
I truly believe this dream is a word the Lord is speaking to the church and
our nation at this time:
In my dream, there was a knock at my door. I answered it and was handed an
envelope by someone whose face I couldn't distinguish. The envelope looked
official, and I perceived that it was a summons to appear in court. I opened it
expecting to see a document, but what I pulled out was a cutout of a red letter
"A" with a diaper pin in it and a note that said, "You must put this on."
I was stunned at seeing the letter and could only think of the novel, The
Scarlet Letter, in which a woman named Hester gives birth to a child after
an adulterous relationship with a Puritan minister. For her punishment, Hester
must bear the shame of her sin by wearing a scarlet letter A for "adultery." For
seven years, she bears the shame of the scarlet letter, while the pastor hides
his own guilt.
In the dream, I felt the shame and humiliation she had to bear. I said, rather
indignantly, "I can't put this on! What would people think? I've never committed
adultery, and I've certainly never had an abortion! And why is this letter red
anyway?"
The faceless person seemed to shift into a Fuller Brush salesman and said, "It's
the Red Letter Edition just like Jesus' words in the Bible!", as though trying
to sell me on the idea of putting it on. Then, more dignified, he explained
further, "It's covered with Jesus' blood. This 'A' stands for 'Authority.'"
Suddenly, the letter unfolded like paper doll cutouts into three A's. The
person said, "See, the letters stand for 'Authority--Abolish--Abortion.' Behold,
I give you authority to trample over snakes and scorpions and to overcome all
the power of the enemy."
"Again, I tell you that you must put this on and take this new level of
authority! The letters represent the blood of Jesus, who paid the price for this
authority to be released for the freedom of little souls. You must Arise in
Authority to Abolish Abortion." Then I saw fine print on the note. "Arise, take
action to abolish the adversary of abortion." It seemed like A's just kept
unfolding.
You Must
Put on this 'A' and Take this New Level of Authority!
What an incredible invitation into the purposes of God! The Holy Spirit,
represented by the faceless person, is knocking at the door of the church,
offering us a "new level of authority to abolish abortion," but only if we are
willing to go to a whole new level of intercession by putting on the "A" and,
like Jesus, bear the pain of women and the reproach of this issue. Like Daniel
(Daniel 9:4-19), we must personally identify
with sin if we are to repent on behalf of our nation.
We must, however, repent for our sins too. Like the minister in the book, the
church has remained silent. We have not wanted to get involved in the issue
of abortion, calling it a "political issue" when it is a moral issue, and we
have not reached out to those women whose lives have been devastated, nor have
we borne them in intercession.
The only thing worse for a parent than losing a child, is the guilt of
knowing that you caused their death. 30 million American women carry this
unspoken wound. They are our neighbors, they go to our churches, yet they
bear their grief and shame alone.
Behind the Face of Religion is a Secret Guilt
In one study, 62% of women who have had an abortion, said they were
evangelical Christians.
Abortion is in the church, yet as pastors,
we scarcely address it or minister to those women scarred by it! There are even
pastors who want to avoid scandal who have counseled girls and their parents to
have abortions, so that the girl's "reputation" is not damaged!
As in The Scarlet Letter, women are stigmatized by the shame of this,
while men escape blame. This is not just a "woman's issue!" Studies show that
most women decide to abort against their consciences. Their "decision" is often
based on the demands or threats of others--even when it violates their own moral
beliefs and desire to keep the baby. Over 80% of women said it's unlikely
they would have had an abortion if others had supported them.
64% of women report being pressured by others into unwanted abortions,
sometimes violently. In the last two weeks, we've seen graphic evidence of
this in the news as two different sets of parents violently attempted to force
their daughters, who wanted to keep their babies, into having abortions.
This dream is about a summons to the church to appear in the high court of
Heaven on behalf of those who feel shamed and who have committed acts of shame,
but it is also about the church breaking our silence. Behind the face of
religion is a secret guilt.
This Is Not A Suggestion...It is a Prophetic
Intercessory Mandate from Heaven
In this book, The Scarlett Letter, the priest finally confesses the day
after the election for a new governor! This is surely the clearest wake-up
call to pastors I've ever heard. Pastors, I beg you, don't wait until after the
elections to speak up!
This book is studied in schools across
America, and I believe this is also the scope of the application of this dream.
How brilliant God is! He uses a classic book that most people have read, so that
a nation is without excuse. God is going to use it to expose our callous hearts.
The Big "A" is going public!
In the dream, the woman is told emphatically by Jesus to put this on. This is
not a suggestion--it is a prophetic intercessory mandate from Heaven. The name
of the woman in the book is "Hester," which means "Esther." If we are silent in
such a time as this, I tremble for our nation.
The "A" was red for the blood of Jesus. Right now, all across America, we
must plead the blood of Jesus over our sin, over abortion, over adultery, and
over the doorposts of our homes. "Forgive us God and pass over."
Then this faceless man declares that the "A" is for "new authority to abolish
abortion." I believe God is saying, "Now is the time!" In confession,
repentance, and intercession, we must now move into authoritative declaration.
This is no ordinary dream--it's the red-letter edition! Jesus is talking to
us. I am taking this dream very seriously. We must arise to abolish the
adversary of abortion!
It is no coincidence that this dream was given to an intercessor from South

3 Wounds
from 33 Years Ago
Thirty-three years ago, in 1973, America suffered three wounds which divided our
nation, all of which have come to a head in South Dakota right now!
In 1973, as President Nixon declared the end of the war in Vietnam, thousands of
men returned home to a country that met them with disgust instead of gratitude.
The spitting, verbal abuse, and rejection these soldiers faced affected them for
the rest of their lives.
Recently, Governor Rounds of South Dakota, spent $1.5 million to officially
welcome home the veterans of the Vietnam War in a state-wide celebration,
becoming the first state to do so, touching the hearts of veterans around the
country!
A speaker at this event pointed out that when he returned from Vietnam in '73,
he was called a "baby killer," yet that same year the Supreme Court legalized
abortion and began to kill babies! He also noted that 1973 was the year of the
"Siege at Wounded Knee" when the American Indian Movement (AIM) clashed with
Federal Marshals and the National Guard on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
These three wounds are being touched on right now in South Dakota! Not only is
South Dakota honoring the Vietnam Veterans, it is also the first state to ban
abortion outright, except if the mother's life is endangered. And on Pine Ridge
Reservation this year, the tribal council impeached their president, Cecelia
Fire Thunder, when she vowed to build an abortion clinic on tribal land in
defiance of South Dakota's abortion ban, saying that "Life is sacred."
South Dakota's abortion ban is critically important in the fight for life, but
this bill is on the ballot during these elections and could be overturned!
Opposition is fierce, and Planned Parenthood has poured millions into trying to
sway the vote. We must be in prayer over this crucial vote, on November 7,
that has massive political and legal ramifications.
Could God be bringing healing to the three
great wounds of America--the wound inflicted on the native peoples, the
bloodshed of the Vietnam War, and the ending of the great holocaust of abortion?
Prophetically, we've felt that First Nations people, hold a key to the ending of
abortion in America. The shedding of their blood and the injustices and broken
covenants need to be healed and forgiven first.
Aglow International will be holding a women's conference in the Black Hills, on
that same reservation, right before the elections. Please pray for this meeting,
as we believe the prayers of these native women and their sisters will help
shift the Heavens on the issue of abortion!

young people have just finished fasting and praying across the state for 21

South Dakota, as well as national issues in the upcoming elections here at the
Fort Mill, South Carolina base. We will also be holding a special Prayer Rumble

Let Esther (Hester) arise in prayer and
bear the scarlet letter and the pain of her sisters who have gone through
abortion. Let pastors become prophets, and speak forth on the issue rather than
hide in the shadows of self-preservation and political correctness. May God
cleanse us of adulterous eyes, adulterous hearts, and the abortion of our
children and grant healing to America. Amen!
