You Are Not Forgotten
I've sensed that many have been experiencing deep discouragement and heartache because of difficult life events and uncertainties. For many of you, things may have taken a different turn than you expected, leaving you feeling cut off and as if God has forgotten about you. For others, you may be feeling as if you have wandered off the path, and you can no longer find your way.
Have you ever felt that God doesn't see you or your struggle? Have you felt hidden, as if God is not involved or is unaware of your life challenges and journey?
I certainly have! It was in this place several years ago; I found myself disheartened and languishing. Then God spoke clearly to me from Isaiah 40.
The Heart of the Problem
In this passage of Isaiah, the descendants of Jacob (or Israel) were lamenting their problems, feeling deep discouragement. It was here that God addressed the lies they were believing, getting to the heart of the problem. The lies they were believing were the same lies I was believing in my difficult circumstances: My way is hidden from the Lord, and my cause is disregarded by Him.
This is the dark place where the enemy seeks to lead many. We arrive in this place not because of our circumstances, but because of what we believe as we face them. You might believe lies about yourself, God, or the problem you are facing. The enemy continually lies and accuses us, but he also attempts to malign God's character to us.
Thankfully, God has given us a path forward to break the cycle.
Hidden Keys for Breakthrough
We are given two keys for overcoming, and there is incredible breakthrough potential hidden in this same exchange in Isaiah 40.
The first key is found in Isaiah 40:28 (NIV): "Do you not know?" This was the question the Holy Spirit first whispered to me as I cried out to Him for answers. (Photo via Pxfuel)
When we encounter darkness and are unable to see our way ahead, we must dig deep within to the reservoir of God's faithfulness that we have already experienced. We sometimes have unwanted negative strongholds in our lives, but we can also build powerful strongholds of God's love and faithfulness. The Holy Spirit will guide us in this process. As we recount God's faithfulness, something incredible begins to happen. We experience an inner transformation. The darkness begins to seem not so dark, and our spirits are lifted and encouraged to once again lay hold of truth.
The second key the Holy Spirit spoke to me is also found in Isaiah 40:28 (NIV): "Have you not heard?" I sensed God was urging me to recount the promises, prophetic words, and rhema words that had been highlighted to me in the past. As I rehearsed what God had already spoken to me, my faith was strengthened, and my spirit was buoyed to once again believe.
My way was NOT hidden, and my cause was NOT disregarded by Him. Neither is yours. God is speaking clearly to many right now. Revisit the things you know to be true and recount those things you have heard Him speak.
The result we will experience is found in Isaiah 40:29–31: "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint" (NIV).
One Who Soars
Weary ones, you can go from feeling hidden and disregarded to becoming those who soar, running your race with confidence as you learn to hope in the Lord. As your mind is renewed with His truth, He will renew your strength, giving you wings to soar as you recount what you know and what you have heard. May you receive grace to HOPE in Him again.
