Helen Calder: Availability - 5 Ways Your "Yes" Is Powerful to God

Helen Calder, Melbourne, Australia

God Is Inviting You Into Availability Without Pressure

To be available is to be present and ready for use. Right now, God is inviting us into availability but without pressure.

"Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?' Then I said, 'Here am I! Send me.'" (Isaiah 6:8 NKJV)

Sometimes in life, our commitments stretch us to capacity, and we feel as though there's no room left. Availability begins to feel like a problem to solve. But the Lord wants us to know that as we open our hearts to Him, He has new gifts for us! He fills us with fresh peace, anointing, and authority.

God calls us to be available—not only for service but also to worship, to listen, and to rest. Your availability is precious to God.

God Is Restoring the Power of Your "Yes"

Many of us have been available to others—people, ministries, and needs—and walked away feeling spent. But availability is a sacred gift, one we can offer with wisdom and discernment, not something to be demanded or drained.

The enemy hates our availability because he knows its power. Today, God is restoring joy to your "yes." He is awakening us again to the wonder and strength of being available to Him.

"Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power." (Psalm 110:3 NKJV)

5 Insights from Silas to Empower Your Availability

A few weeks ago, I was preparing for prophetic training and looked up a familiar Scripture.

"Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brethren with many words." (Acts 15:32 NKJV)

This verse stirred me to take another look at Silas' story. And as I did, the Holy Spirit highlighted details I'd never seen before. What I discovered absolutely blew me away.

We often overlook Silas, but his story carries a powerful testimony, especially about the power of availability. And there are prophetic insights for us today in his journey. (Photo via Pexels)

1. Faithfulness Is a Key That Opens Doors

The first time we meet Silas is in Acts 15, when the church in Jerusalem needed to send a message to Gentile Believers in Antioch. They wrote a letter and sent it by hand.

"Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men... namely, Judas... and Silas, leading men among the brethren." (Acts 15:22 NKJV)

Silas is described as a leader in the Jerusalem church, who was trusted to speak on the church's behalf. He was a prophet and an orator. It was largely an administrative task. There was no dramatic call, no signs and wonders, just willingness and a reputation for faithfulness. Silas was ready to go, and his "yes" placed him on a path of divine assignment.

2. Availability Positions You for Your Destiny

After delivering the letter, the team prepared to return to Jerusalem, but it seemed that Silas stayed on.

"It seemed good to Silas to remain there." (Acts 15:34 NKJV)

That's it! There was no dramatic reason, and not every translation includes that verse. It may be a postscript. Nevertheless, Silas' ministry in Antioch positioned him for what came next. When Paul needed a new partner, he chose Silas. One moment of availability opened the door to a whole new season and a new chapter in the history of the Church.

3. God Sets Things in Motion Beforehand

Paul and Silas traveled together and delivered the letter to other churches.

"As they went through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees to keep... so the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily." (Acts 16:4–5 NKJV)

Not only did Silas help carry the message, he was the message. He had come straight from Jerusalem, representing the very council that made the decree. It seemed like a coincidence, but it was a divine strategy. I realized that Silas wasn't the second choice, after all! He was already God's choice. Be assured of this: You are God's choice. 4. Your Availability Contributes to Legacy

Silas's influence continued through the New Testament. He was there in Philippi with Paul in the dungeon, singing hymns of praise to God, and with Paul in Thessalonica and Berea (Acts 16–17). In Acts 18, he and Timothy rejoined Paul in Corinth.

We don't know all of his movements, but we do learn of his significance as an apostolic leader, and his faithfulness to God's call. Paul included his name as a co-sender in letters: "Paul, Silvanus (Silas), and Timothy..." (1 Thessalonians 1:1 AMP); "me, Silvanus, and Timothy" (2 Corinthians 1:19 NKJV). Silvanus is the Latin version of Silas' name. Even Peter wrote, "By Silvanus, our faithful brother... I have written to you" (1 Peter 5:12 NKJV).

When we first met Silas, the Jerusalem Council had appointed him to carry a letter. And the last we heard of him, he was continuing to communicate letters but for the apostle Peter! Not a coincidence, but the sign of a powerful legacy. What you say "yes" to today can leave a mark far beyond what you can see now.

5. God Calls You Faithful Even If No One Else Sees

How would you describe Silas? I realized he was a leader, prophet, missionary, ambassador, worshiper (who praised in prison), preacher, and co-laborer with Paul. He was all these things, but Peter simply called him, "Our faithful brother."

He was not famous, but faithful. He was not the pinnacle, but a pillar. This is what matters to God—to be someone Heaven knows by your availability, by your willingness and faithfulness.

Your Availability Matters to God

Maybe you've felt hidden. And maybe your "yes" has gone unnoticed, but Heaven sees. Today, receive Jesus' healing for your availability. He is restoring your confidence and giving you strength for what's ahead. Your "yes" has power. It may seem small, but it is shaping legacy. And God is empowering it. Your part is to be available, and God promises to enable.
