Kim Potter: It's Your Inheritance—Ask for It!

Kim Potter, Dayton, Tennessee

The Transfer of Inheritance

Recently, I was listening to a teaching when I heard a Scripture that captured my spirit. The Scripture is found in Numbers 27:7:

"The daughters of Zelophehad speak what is right; you shall surely give them a possession of inheritance among their father's brothers, and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them." (NKJV)

This Scripture speaks of the time when Moses was granting land to the people of God. The land was being transferred to the sons of those who had died in the wilderness.

For Sons and for Daughters

There was a family that had no sons, only daughters. The daughters went to Moses and asked for their portion. They suggested that their father's inheritance should be transferred to them, the daughters. The Lord told Moses that the girls were right; the inheritance should be theirs, and therefore it was transferred to them that day.

An Inheritance from Father God

As I said, this Scripture jumped in my spirit that day. You see, in the natural, I have no known inheritance. My father is in Heaven and left no inheritance to me. My mom, just remarried after forty years, has lived a simple life with no inheritance to be left behind, at least not so far. (Photo via Pexels)

However, as I heard this Scripture, I was reminded that we all have an inheritance from our Father God. It came through Abraham and is now ours through the blood of Jesus Christ. That is my inheritance!

I realized I have every right to go before God, just as the daughters of Zelophehad did, and ask that my inheritance be transferred to me now.

Attaching Faith

Every now and then, a Scripture resonates in our spirit. It speaks to us and goes deep into our spirits. We know it is God speaking to us and giving us direction. This was true for me that day.

I knew I had to put my faith to this Scripture and do something as a point of contact. Faith without works is dead; I wanted to put feet on my faith.

Therefore, I walked to my desk, and I sowed a significant seed into this word. As I sowed my seed, I asked God to transfer my inheritance to me now, in Jesus' name. I used my seed as my point of contact.

Ephesians 1:11 says, "In Him we have obtained an inheritance" (ESV).

Ephesians 1:18 says, "... having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints" (ESV).

Colossians 1:12 says, "... giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light" (ESV).

Finally, Galatians 3:29 says, "And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise" (ESV). (Photo via Pexels)

Be Bold and Ask

We all, my friend, have an inheritance in Christ. It is ours for the taking.

Imagine if the daughters of Zelophehad had not been brave enough to ask for their inheritance. They would not have had it. Thankfully, they were bold enough, giving us yet another valuable lesson from the Word of God. They knew it should rightly belong to them; therefore, they asked for it be transferred to them, and it was.

Today, I encourage you to remember the inheritance you have in Christ. Go before God and ask for it to be transferred to you. Jesus died that you might receive it. It is yours for the taking, and it is time for the transfer. It is time. Ask for it and receive it, in Jesus' name.
