A Vision of Spotlights
A number of years ago, my wife and I were ministering in Argentina. We were at a very large church a few hours south of Buenos Aires. The atmosphere was charged with a heavy sense of God's presence. At this same church, we had experienced many encounters with the Lord in a revival atmosphere.
While we were in worship, I began to feel a shift in the Spirit. Then in an instant—whether it was a vision or a trance I don't know—I was caught up in a large room. I could feel the heavy presence of God all around me. The room was about the size of a large gymnasium. It was a dark room, but one spotlight shone down on a person standing against the far wall near the corner. I had an angel standing on my right side.
Somehow, I knew the angel wanted me to walk closer to the light. As we walked, with excitement, I began to recognize the person in front of me. She had flowing garments, reddish auburn hair, and a piercing look that was filled with love.
I could feel a heavy anointing as I stood there. I was standing in front of Kathryn Kuhlman. My heart flooded with countless stories of salvations, miracles, and her sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.
Then my eyes were drawn to look down by her feet. In front of her was a rolled-up leather garment. I started to cry with anticipation. I thought the Lord was going to give me this mantle. I was crying and trembling.
Then the voice of the Lord spoke strongly in the room, "You want that mantle, don't you?"

About ten feet to my left, a spotlight came on again from the ceiling and illuminated another person. I was compelled to walk over and stand in front of the person. It only took a few steps to realize that it was A. A. Allen.
Again, I trembled as I walked over and stood in front of him. I could see every detail of his face, his smile, and clothes. He radiated with a sense of anointing. My mind was again flooded with countless stories of salvations and miracles that God had done through this man.
As before, I was drawn to look down near his feet. In front of him was a rolled-up mantle. Then the voice of God spoke again: "You want that mantle, don't you?"
"Lord, You know I do." Then the lights went off.
Next, this same thing happened with William Branham. After the Lord asked the very same question, the lights went off again. Then to my left the Lord turned on spotlights, which seemed like an endless number, all illuminating past generals in the faith.
My heart was pounding, and my head was swimming with questions. Surely, the Lord brought me here to give me one of these mantles.
As I stood there, the place flooded with the presence of God. With a strong authoritative voice, the Lord spoke: "Don't you know that their breakthroughs are your breakthroughs?" Then I was back in the worship service at that church.
Handcuff Yourself to Those Things
As I was processing all this, I realized what the Lord was trying to teach me. Don't wait for a mantle. Use the example of others who have gone before us and do the same things. What God will do for one, He will do for another.
I felt a chain break off my life that day. All the excuses were gone. This word wasn't just for me. This was a word to the Body of Christ! It's time to move forward and expect the backing of Heaven when you preach the Gospel! As Bobby Conner told me years ago, "When you see God using someone in the Bible or in the world today, handcuff yourself to those things. Put a demand on Heaven and step out in faith." Be the revivalist God called you to be.
I believe in mantles. A mantle is an anointing with an assignment. A mantle represents a divine calling, authority, and empowerment given by God to an individual for a specific purpose. I believe God can give you someone else's assignment, with its unique anointing (divine enablement). We see this pattern with Elijah and Elisha (2 Kings 2:9–14), Moses and Joshua (Deuteronomy 34:9), and Jesus and His disciples (John 14:12). Jesus promised that His followers would do even greater works through the Holy Spirit. However, all of us have a unique calling, anointing, and an assignment to win our world to Jesus. "So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts" (1 Corinthians 12:31 NLT). This states that you can pursue the greater gifts.
"And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as My Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from Heaven." (Luke 24:49 NLT)
"These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in My name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won't hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed." (Mark 16:17–18 NLT)
This is my encouragement to you:
• Seek God's presence.
• Learn from spiritual fathers and mothers; their breakthroughs are your breakthroughs!
• Cultivate the anointing. An anointing must be nurtured through prayer, fasting, and obedience.
• Have faith; take risks.
• Change the world for Jesus!
