Demontae Edmonds: Ten Prayers for the Nation's New Leadership

What Is Pleasing and Acceptable to God?

Throughout Scripture, we discover things that please the heart of God. If we are to be pleasing and acceptable to God, we must learn the things that are pleasing and acceptable to Him. This principle is unmasked in the story of Cain and Abel.

"And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.

"And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

"But unto Cain and to his offering He had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

"And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

"If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?..." (Genesis 4:3–7)

Abel gave an offering acceptable to the Lord and was commended. Cain gave an offering that was not received. However, God told Cain that He was not a respecter of persons, and if Cain gave a pleasing offering, it too would be accepted. Cain struggled to grasp this principle and ended up being led by his emotions, missing the invitation and wisdom of God.

One of the practices in Scripture that God tells us is pleasing and acceptable to Him is found in 1 Timothy 2:1–3. This particular passage relates to the intentionality of our intercession and how we relate to political powers, regardless of our political leanings.

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

"For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

"For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior." (1 Timothy 2:1–3)

God says we should pray and intercede "for all that are in authority." One of the benefits of this is that it pushes the pendulum of society toward a more "quiet and peaceable life." Also, as we pray, a community or nation begins to lean more toward "godliness."

Another blessing of interceding for governmental leadership is that "this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior." The pleasure of God rests upon us in a new measure as we intercede for His will to be perfected in the lives of our leaders.

Ten Prayers for the Trump Administration

Below are ten powerful prayers to pray for the new Trump administration, as he and his team will soon be inaugurated into office and leadership:

1. Pray that President Donald Trump's inauguration is unhindered and uncontested. (Photo via Unsplash)

2. Pray for a peaceful, seamless, and smooth transition between the Biden administration and the Trump administration, including in the White House, Cabinet roles, and governmental departments and agencies.

3. Pray that any Cabinet or senior-level official whom God does not want in office will be swiftly replaced by His choicest pick.

4. Pray that God will surround President Trump, the Executive Cabinet, Supreme Court justices, senators, and congressional leaders with individuals who have pure motives and can administer godly wisdom and counsel to them.

5. Pray that our intelligence services and agencies will operate without missing a beat. Pray that they will have foresight and insight that will give us a strategic advantage over any foreign entities wishing our nation harm.

6. Pray for our military forces and leadership to be led by wisdom, and to work with great synchronization and unity with civilian governmental leadership (the State Department and Executive Office of the White House).

7. Pray that our leadership will open the door for godliness in our nation, help to return prayer in our schools, and combat ungodly and immoral legislation and political agendas.

8. Pray that the Spirit of God will invade halls and seats of power, touching the hearts of men and women with His life-transforming grace and power.

9. Pray that God will give leadership in the new administration prophetic dreams and visions that will provide solutions from Heaven, helping America overcome some of its toughest obstacles.

10. Pray that there will be a national level of repentance from the White House to every house, that it would stay the hand of judgment and release the spirit of revival across the nation.

In Jesus' name, selah!
