Anita Alexander: "Ushering in the NEW: Do Not Treat What Is Holy as Common"

To Those Carrying a "New Thing"

With the birthing of "new things" that is happening in this season, we need to be mindful that not everything "new" is of God or being brought forth by the hand of God.

In 2 Samuel chapter 5, it is a time where, after the death of King Saul, David becomes king over Israel. In this time in Israel, we see by the hand of God a shift of government taking place in His house, from the house of Saul to the house of David. I have had multiple dreams of this scenario taking place in the Body of Christ over the past several years, and again recently.

The old government, like Saul, is dead, and a new government after God's own heart is coming forth. However, there is a clear warning to those who believe they are carrying a "new thing."

Chapter 6 of 2 Samuel introduces the scenario where David decides he will bring the ark into Jerusalem, as it was not sought in the days of Saul (see 1 Chronicles 13:3). Verse 3 of 2 Samuel 6 says this: "And they set the ark of God upon a NEW cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, drove the NEW cart" (2 Samuel 6:3 AMPC, emphasis mine).

Clearly, we see here that "new" did not mean "God." See, in David's haste and longing for the ark to be front and center in his kingdom (now that he was the new king and head of a new government), he failed to revere God's ordained order, and didn't inquire properly of the Lord as to God's way of handling that which is holy.

We, as Believers, also must have discernment in this transitional season. Just because new language is coming forth, stimulating the desperate place in your heart for something new, because you have been in Saul's house so long, dried up to a crisp with no ark (Presence) to seek, doesn't mean that it's God, or that it's being brought forth God's way. Two Things That Will Mark Those Carrying the "New"

What will mark any ministry that is legitimately bringing forth a new thing in this hour is the fear of the Lord and humility. Those legitimately heralding and establishing the "new" will not make it about themselves, and will not draw attention to themselves about how they are "the new." This is a sign of present leaven.

David waited a long time for the prophetic word of Samuel to come to pass. He had endured much trial and persecution in his preparation. Now the time had come! He could lead Israel in a way He had longed for, with worship of the Lord and honor for His presence, right in the heart of Jerusalem, where he would reign. He didn't want there to be a separation of government and worship—a very noble mandate. However, the way he implemented this amazing mandate and assignment lacked reverence.

Many believe in this season that they are called to usher in a new thing. They, like David, may have the call burning inside of them, and are running forth heralding the new. However, the template must marry with the ways and will of God.

The ark of God was never meant to ride in any wagon, and just because it was new did not compensate for David's lack of reverence. The ark was meant to be carried by the Levitical priests who wore linen ephods which represented purity, consecration, and not working to sweat (arm of the flesh) but by His Spirit.

The Threshing Floor

He has His ways of executing His will. When our ways that are not tempered in the fear of the Lord get involved, and we go forth building according to our own template, there is mixture, and the Lord has to come and separate what is of the flesh and what is of the Spirit. We see this happen at Nacon's threshing floor. (Photo via Unsplash)

"And when they came to Nacon's threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled and shook it. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for touching the ark, and he died there by the ark of God." (2 Samuel 6:6–7 AMPC)

Note the oxen stumbled at Nacon's threshing floor. We can see here that that which has been driven and plowed (oxen) in man's strength (Uzzah) is going to stumble in this hour, as the Lord is shaking that which can be shaken. The threshing floor is where the separation of chaff (the old/the flesh) and the wheat takes place. The chaff can't come into the next process that the wheat goes through in its journey. It must be separated.

In David's excitement of running with this new mandate, he made the assignment about him. This parade drew attention to his new government, and the fanfare and hoo-ha clearly did not impress God.

This "new thing" was not being brought forth by God's hand but by the arm of the flesh, and the Lord killed it. Uzzah means "strength" (Strong's 5798). The Lord stretched forth His hand and brought death to man's strength that treated what was holy as common.

I believe we are in a threshing floor time (see Matthew 3:12). The Lord is separating impure motives of the heart, like chaff from wheat, and bringing the fire to purge and purify. Blind spots of pride and selfish ambition in the heart are being exposed. The planks of judgment, competition, criticism, and jealousy in the eye are being revealed so they can be removed and burned with fire, in order for the lamp to be lit and the whole body to be full of light. Those who are pure in heart will see God.

Let us remember, whatever we do for God must be done in the fear of the Lord. We must do God's will God's way, then what is established will be pure and give glory to Him.
