Kim Potter: "Out with the Old and in with the New!"

From the Desks of Steve Shultz and Julie A. Smith:

Steve ShultzWhen God wants to bring something new into our lives, it often requires us to let the old things go.

If you are struggling in this area, Kim Potter's word will really help you as she says:

When God told me to LET this season end, He didn't stop there. He continued speaking to me and said, "What was profitable in the last season will NOT be profitable in the next season. What worked in the last season will not work in the coming season. Let it change."

Steve ShultzWhat we've been holding onto from the past may not work for our benefit in the future. It's important in times of transition that we listen and earnestly seek the Lord in the new things He is calling us to.

Be encouraged in this word from Kim Potter... God has something much better ahead for you! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

The other morning I was reminded of something God once said to me. He said, "Let this season end." The emphasis was on the word "let." I thought it was odd that He was telling me to let it happen.

The word "let" means "fail to prevent," "to give permission or opportunity to," and "allow."

It indeed sounds odd for God Almighty to be instructing us to let something happen, doesn't it?

Yet, when we read our Bible we find that God has given us a great deal of authority to govern things on this earth. Psalm 8:4-8 states: "What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen—even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas."

If God has given us dominion over the works of His hands as His Word states, then we can certainly delay or prevent things on this earth, such as not allowing our seasons to change.

Why Do We Hold On to What God Is Done With?

Why would we want to hold on to something that God is done with? Well, we may be holding on to a business that is no longer making a profit, when God is saying, "Let it go and move on." Or we may be holding on to a hobby that has brought us pleasure in the past, but no longer holds the same enjoyment. Or, we may be holding on to relationships that are no longer conducive to where God wants us to go. (Photo via Unsplash)

There are many things we hold on to when it is time to let go, and most of the time, we are holding on to them because of fear of the unknown.

Don't Miss His Next Thing for You!

If we are holding on to things God is done with in our lives, we are missing God's next thing for us. Additionally, if God has said to let it go, and we continue to hold on, then we are holding on in our own strength and not His; He is no longer in it.

When God told me to LET this season end, He didn't stop there. He continued speaking to me and said, "What was profitable in the last season will NOT be profitable in the next season. What worked in the last season will not work in the coming season. Let it change."

One of the things that often changes are sources of income. We MUST let go of the past sources to lay hold of the future sources. When God tells us to let a season change, let it end, it is only because He has something better for us ahead; it is only because He is delivering us from that OLD way and opening wide the door to the NEW way.

It is God who opens and closes doors (Rev. 3:7). God can open or close doors, but He won't make you walk through them, or walk away from them; that choice is yours.

Pressing On Toward the Goal – Out of the Old and into the New

So, why was I thinking of all this? Because recently I was required to let go of something I didn't even realize I was holding on to. I had to let that season go, once and for all.

"...Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me Heavenward in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 3:13-14)

The past few years have held many challenges. However, none of that changed God or who He is. He walked with us through it all. (Photo via Wallpaper Flare)

God says He has a good plan for our future; we must believe that and declare it. Nothing that happened in the past changed God's plan for YOUR future. His word to you in the beginning is still His covenant promise for you.

It is not comfortable to let go. However, we cannot hold too tightly to a particular season, good or bad. We must continually follow God. If He is moving, we must move with Him. Just like in the Old Testament, when His presence left a particular place, the people moved with Him. If they didn't, His presence would no longer be with them. We must follow God into the new, even when we can't see what is ahead; that's where faith comes in. It's time to move out of the disappointments of previous years and into the new season God has for us.

Let This Season End

Remember Lot's wife. God had sent great deliverance to Lot's entire family, yet his wife could only look back, even after she was told not to. Had she kept her eyes straight ahead and kept walking forward, she would have walked into a land of protection, provision, and blessing. But she didn't, and that's where her journey stopped, prematurely.

I believe God has something awesome for many of us. It is time for us to walk into a place of provision, protection, and blessing. The question is, will we, by faith, move out of the previous season without clearly seeing what is ahead of us? Will we empower delay or will we press forward into the promises of God? Personally, I say, "In Jesus' name, I let this season end, and I walk into the NEW THING God has for us."

If God is speaking to you today...then let this season end.
