"Praying for Our Judges at a Crucial Time"

Dear Friends and Intercessors:

Because of the situations with judges being killed, and knowing that this is a year that we should pray for our judicial system and especially our judges, I asked Alice Patterson to write a special prayer focus for us. Alice serves as President of Justice at the Gates as well as on the Apostolic Council of the United States Strategic Prayer Network. With all that is going on, we must recognize that God is calling us to this prayer arena. This is a year of violence, as I have written previously. But we can win every prayer war with violent praise.

Justice at the Gate

The month of March began with the murder of Judge Joan Letkow's husband and mother in Chicago and continued less than two weeks later with the triple slaying of Superior Court Judge Rowland Barnes, his court reporter, and a sergeant from Fulton County Sheriff's Department in Atlanta. The onslaught has gone from covertly chipping away at our freedoms through little-known judicial decisions to the IN YOUR FACE rage of the enemy against justice and righteousness.

Psalm 11:3 "If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" (NKJV)

Psalm 89:14 "Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne. Mercy and truth go before Your face." (NKJV)

During the last presidential election the nation focused on judicial appointments to the courts. For many years the foundation of faith in God, religious freedom, and protection of the innocent has been quietly and secretly eroding by decisions made by judges.

The Lord called this nation to pray for judges through Cindy Jacobs, Chuck Pierce, Lou Engle, Dutch Sheets, and others. Many of you heard the call and have prayed for individual judges and for those leading the battle in the courts such as Allan Parker, Kelly Shackelford, David Barton, and Jay Sekulow.

NOW the enemy himself is overtly assaulting the courts. Isaiah 28:5-6 promises that the Lord will be a "spirit of justice for those who sit in judgment" and a "strength to those who repel the onslaught at the gate." Will you answer the call to turn back the battle at the gate of our judicial system?

Prayer Focus For Our Judges

Now is the time to:

• Stand in the Lord's strength and war in His armor with the Word of God for those in seats of justice and for the foundation of our judicial system. Ephesians 6:10-18
   

• Lift up the shield of faith around our judges, their families, and our courthouses. Ephesians 6:16
   

• Release power, love, and a sound mind to defend the judges from the spirit of fear and intimidation that has risen against them. II Timothy 2:7 Declare that those now in place and those in line for appointments will courageously stand their ground and will not vacate their place.
   

• Declare that judges in authority over us will "lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and reverence." I Timothy 2:2
   

• Be sure that every judge in your city is covered. Pray for them by name in your corporate gatherings from your own congregation to citywide intercession. Build a hedge of prayer around them.
   

• Write your judge a note and tell him or her that you are praying for him, his family, and his staff. Encourage and appreciate your judge with a card, a call, or a visit to his courtroom to pray quietly in the back of the room.
   

• Declare that the covenant with death will be annulled. Isaiah 28:17b
   

• Pray for the families of those slain: Judge Barnes' wife Claudia, two daughters, and four step-children; court reporter Julie Brandau's 18-year-old daughter; and Sgt. Hoyt Teasley's two children.
   

• Pray for critically wounded Deputy Cynthia Hall.
   

• Now is the time to take up the mantle of leadership and see that every judge in your city and state is covered with intercession. It's not necessary to align with Justice at the Gate. You may use our materials or not -- communicate with us or not. Just pray and take the initiative to stand in the gap and build up a wall around every judge.

Isaiah 59:14-16a "Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off for truth is fallen in the street and equity cannot enter. So truth falls, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the Lord saw it and it displeased Him that there was no justice. He saw that there was no man and wondered that there was no intercessor . . . " (NKJV)
