God says: Today is a special day

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.'" Leviticus 23:23-24

Today is a very special time on God's calendar.

It is Rosh Hashanah – the Jewish New Year 5783!

All across the world the Jewish people are celebrating this day by blowing the shofar, exchanging cards, having a meal together, and eating foods like apples and honey to remind them of the "sweetness" of God's goodness.

Sadly, for some like Alexandra this may not be a "happy new year" at all.

Alexandra is an immigrant from the former Soviet Union. Though she had a good job there, she has fallen into poverty in Israel and is struggling to survive.

With the economy still reeling from the pandemic and the constant terror attacks, this is an especially challenging time for people like Alexandra to be able to celebrate what should be a joyous time of the year.

The latest estimates are that tens of thousands of Israeli families could be going without food this Rosh Hashanah!

That is why our teams at the Abraham's Bread Feeding Centers in Jerusalem and Tiberias are packing and preparing hundreds of meals to deliver to needy families all over Israel.

You and I have an opportunity during this season of celebrating God's goodness to do something practical to bless the people of Israel, like Alexandra and her family.
