As we approached the new year of 2022, the Lord spoke one phrase to me about the year. He said, "Awake an Awakening!" We, as the Church, have been expecting an awakening that will exceed even the awakenings of the past centuries. There have been two "Great Awakenings" here in the United States that have impacted society in a powerful way. Those two occurred on God's timeline of the "Second Reformation" of the Church. This Second Reformation started with Martin Luther in the year 1517. The "First Reformation" preceded this time, beginning with Jesus as He launched the Church age and caused the Holy Spirit to be poured out.
We are now in the time of a Third Reformation but have yet to see a great awakening, even though we see the traces of that beginning.
However, when the Lord spoke "Awake an Awakening" to me, I knew He was saying that we should not be waiting on Him to bring an awakening, but that He was waiting on us to act. He was saying that we, as His Believers, should be awakening an awakening in each of our spheres of influence. This means that we are to cause His light to shine, His presence to be known, and His miracles to happen daily, wherever we are. This is not just for the times when we meet corporately for worship, the Word, and miracles (although we should believe it for those times as well); but this awakening should happen because we as individuals are initiating it, even apart from those corporate meeting times.
This "Awake an Awakening" would be for all of the mountains of society: Church, Family, Government, Business, Education, Arts and Entertainment, and Media. This awakening would happen because every Believer would carry the presence of the Lord to their spheres of influence, causing creativity, breakthrough and God's intervention in every societal mountain.
The Lord gave me a vision of a retro children's toy called "Lite-Brite." With this toy, there are small, transparent, colorful pegs that are inserted into a light box. When they are inserted into this light-illuminating box, they begin to radiate the light contained in it. When they are arranged in certain orders, they illuminate a defined figure or picture.
This is a fitting example of what God wants in this age. When we abide in the vine, Jesus, we can radiate the light of who He is; and when arranged in divine order, we can carry the mission of this "Third Reformation Church" age. These pegs do not radiate any light unless they are plugged into the light-originating device. We, in ourselves, do not have the power to bring this type of awakening, but by the power of the Holy Spirit, we can radiate the Dunamis (dynamite) power of who Jesus is. This corporate awakening will radiate Isaiah 60:1: "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you!" This will cause nations and the 7 Mountains to come to this light.
A Quantum Leap Year
If we Google "quantum leap," the majority of the content we will see relates to an old TV show. However, there is a scientific concept that relates to "quantum leap" in the world of physics and quantum mechanics, which is better known in the scientific world as "quantum jump."
In my pursuit of a degree in chemistry, we spent almost an entire semester (during Physical Chemistry) focusing on this phenomenon. In simplifying a rather complex parameter, "quantum jump" refers to a particular time when electrons "jump" from one energy level to a higher one to initiate reactions. The electrons are in orbit around the nucleus of an atom, and this "jump" allows one atom to interact with and come in union with others.
The funny thing is that when science describes how this happens, it uses this scientific term, explaining that the electrons get "excited" and then make the jump. This year of 2022 is a year where the Lord desires Believers to make spiritual "jumps," as well, that will enable them to demonstrate the Kingdom and interact with the world in ways that have not happened before. For electrons to jump, it requires them to absorb energy from their atmosphere to empower them. In order for Believers to make jumps this year, we will need the empowerment of the Lord. In the next, higher level that God is calling us to, there will be new levels of signs, wonders, and miracles. The great news is that if Jesus is alive in our hearts and spirits, there is more than enough power to make these jumps.
This year, I challenge us all to determine to do things we have never done, see miracles we have never seen, and demonstrate who Jesus is in ways we never have before. Even though I have seen the Lord do great miracles through me in the past, I am purposing in the year of 2022 to see Him do more through me than ever before. This will require us all to take risks of faith and believe God to show up in powerful ways.
Awakening Biblical Authority
One of the critical aspects of any type of spiritual awakening is the reality of the authority of God's written Word, along with recognizing the authority of the living Word, Jesus. In the book of Acts, there is a story of a unique time when, in one day, a small group of people (who were confused about exactly what had happened when Jesus was crucified) was changed into a group of people with an overcoming mindset for the future. Like the Sons of Issachar, they were able to perceive times and seasons.
When the outpouring of the Holy Spirit came upon them, they were empowered with revelation and miracle-working power. Peter became the mouthpiece of this group and understood that the prophet Joel had prophesied that this day would occur almost one thousand years beforehand. With this understanding, this group became the force that radically changed cities and nations in the Middle East. They testified to who Jesus was and the validity of God's written Word by demonstrating miracles exactly like Jesus did. They came from normal backgrounds of fishermen, business owners, and even a tax collector. Then suddenly, they became the early disciples and apostles of an arising Church.
God is looking for normal people in 2022 to be radically changed into those that demonstrate the Kingdom with power and not just intellectual words. They will realize that the written Word of God contains "Dunamis" (dynamite), miracle-working power. With that revelation will come an ability to bring God's presence into situations to see the spirit realm supersede the natural realm, and to see change happen. This will not only be for physical, healing miracles, but also for marketplace miracles in business, government, education, arts and even entertainment. I was just with a group in L.A. composed of actors, entertainers, and even TikTok dancers who were impacting their spheres of influence for God. The wonderful thing was that they all had a passion for the Lord and His Word.
A Year to "Just Do It"
One of the keys for this year of 2022 will be the need for Believers to "Just Do It." What does that mean? It means that we must really believe we are who Jesus and His Word tell us we are – and that we can do the things He and His Word say we can.
There are a couple of interesting stories about the idea of "Just Do It." One, of course, is the story of the Nike company at a critical time in its destiny, when things were going downhill with market share. They had a strategic meeting of key executives and marketing personnel, and out of that meeting came the phrase "Just Do It." This phrase now has revolutionized the company for decades.
The second, even-more-important story comes when Jesus did His first miracle at the wedding of Canaan. When the servants realized that they were running out of wine at the wedding, they went to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and asked her what they should do. Her response to them was, Whatever Jesus says to you, 'Just Do It.' This then opened the door for Jesus' first miracle of turning water into wine.
It is also interesting that this first miracle was a provisional miracle. The year of 2022 can be a year where we see provisional miracles in great ways. It can also be a year where we see physical, healing miracles, if we are willing to be those that "Just Do It." Jesus has already paid the ultimate price for all healing miracles, and because of this, He gave us the authority to lay hands on the sick and see them recover. 8 Keys to Awaken YOUR Awakening
Here are a few keys on how to awake your personnel awakening, in addition to more national and global ones:
1. Begin to make decrees from the Word of God in the areas where you need miracles or change to happen.
2. Begin to be a greater miracle worker than you ever have been. Lay hands on the sick, expecting God to surprise you with miracles.
3. Change the course of your destiny by decreeing the blessings of Deuteronomy 28:1-14 daily over your life.
4. Believe the Lord to speak to you about strategic, financial creativity that can break the limits off of finances.
5. Allow your mouth to be effective in the year of 2022. What you say will come about, good or bad, so let it be good.
6. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and His promise is that He will direct your path in the year 2022.
7. Allow yourself to be filled with His Word in the year of 2022, which will bring about spiritual "quantum jumps."
8. Allow God to bring you to a new prophetic level in 2022 by hearing God's voice with increased clarity.
Time to Shine!
Finally, I would like to give some perspective on former awakenings, and what we may expect as we look toward a future awakening. The major awakenings of the past did not happen during times of ease but during times when things in the natural were difficult. I believe this will be true of the future awakening we are looking for. According to Scripture, the "last days" began two thousand years ago with the launching of the Church. I believe we are in a time of Matthew 24.
The things prophesied in Matthew 24 are now being seen on a daily basis. Most of those things listed are of great turmoil: wars and rumors of wars; famines and plagues; nation against nation; ethnicity against ethnicity; and increased persecution and lawlessness, among others. I believe that we should not be surprised when we see darkness increase this year, because without darkness increasing, we will not see the brightness of the Church arising.
Having grown up on a farm in the Midwest, there is something great about harvest time. Harvest can happen during nighttimes of darkness or daytimes of light. Often, much of the harvest from fields will be gathered when the combine harvesters are running at night. This is especially true when time is urgent, due to inclement weather or another kind of a perceived, short window of opportunity. With the global awakening we are looking for, much of the harvest of souls will occur during times of darkness. The time is short, and souls are at stake.
Jesus' charge to us for this Matthew 24 season is to not be afraid. The year of 2022 will be a year where we will need to let faith triumph over fear. Darkness may cover the earth, and deep darkness the minds of people, but that is how we will know it is our time to arise and shine.
