Learning the Many Ways That God Speaks

Sometimes supernatural things need to be caught rather than taught. Many times the Holy Spirit tries to get our attention, but we miss it because we try to discern it with our natural minds. The Bible says that He speaks in so many different ways, and one of the ways that He speaks is through dreams or visions of the night, when we're in a deep sleep. He wants to speak to you today and show you things that will amaze you. He wants to take you to a new place if you will simply allow the Holy Spirit to rise within you today.

Several years ago, I was taking classes on dreams and visions and "The Art of Hearing God" by John Paul Jackson. He taught on how the Lord still speaks to us today, just as He did so often throughout Bible history. At that time, I was receiving extraordinary dreams as well as visions from the Lord almost every night. And I believe the Holy Spirit is bringing this back, for me and many others, on a much larger scale in this season; He wants to teach us the many ways that He speaks.

A Dream About Destiny

One night in December of 2000, I had an amazing dream. In the dream, I was looking out at a bunch of pure-white poodles with big, brown eyes. I looked closely into the eyes of one of them and it began speaking to me saying: "Now is the time that you are called to the Gospel – to do what you were created to do."

When I woke up I had such peace in my heart. A couple of days later, I was in a pet shop with a friend. They had a beautiful, white puppy for sale. When I looked at this puppy, it looked into my eyes and I saw the same big, brown eyes as the white poodles that were in my dream. (Photo via Pixabay)

This may sound foolish to some of you because our natural minds cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God, because spiritual things must be spiritually discerned. Jesus was not only confirming my dream, but confirming that He was bringing me into a new journey with Him. He speaks in dreams and makes His mysteries known.

A Dream About Wisdom

That same week I had another dream. In this dream, I was looking at a bedspread that I had owned many years ago. It was brown with a floral design. As I looked closely I saw the face of a woman, and she began speaking to me. Quoting Proverbs 3:13-16, she said: "Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor."

The Parallel Between Two Dreams

There was a parallel in these two dreams; I understood that searching for wisdom was the key to unlocking the door to my destiny. In wisdom's right hand is long life and in wisdom's left hand are riches and honor.

How to Recognize His Voice Again

Some of you are saying that you've had dreams in the past and that you used to know the Lord's voice, but you no longer recognize His voice. It seems as if the river has dried up. If you want to go back to the intimate relationship that you had with Jesus in the past, you have to go back to doing what you were doing at the time. You may have picked up some baggage along the way and are no longer sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Allow Him to search your heart to see if there is anything displeasing to Him that you need to release.

When you understand your covenant with Jesus, you will begin to recognize His voice. It is like a power cord being connected to an electrical outlet. When that power cord is removed, the power will cut off. We need that direct connection to the King of kings and the Lord of lords, Jesus Himself, once again. Spending time in His Word, in communion, and conversing with Him will bring you into the deeper life in Jesus. Job 33:14-18, "For God may speak in one way, or in another, yet man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, while slumbering on their beds, then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction. In order to turn man from his deed, and conceal pride from man, He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword."

Proverbs 3: 13-18, "Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; for her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her."

Daniel 2:22, "He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him."
