Comfort Jerusalem

Dear Praying Friends,

Did you know Jerusalem is listed as one of the poorest cities in all of Israel?

The National Council for the Child released its annual report, and the statistics were remarkable.

Since 1970, the number of children in Israel has nearly doubled. This reminds me of the promise of God to the people of Israel.

"The streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets." (Zechariah 8:5)

Truly we can see this as the fulfillment of Scripture. A land that at one time was a desert is once again filled with the sound of children. Unfortunately, with this growth has come the scourge of childhood poverty.

Here is the bottom line. Today, one out of every three children in Israel suffers from hunger.

It is not enough that these children are growing up when Iran is threatening their destruction. Rockets continue to fly right over their playgrounds, and many live with the psychological trauma of always under possible attack. On top of that, they are going to bed hungry.

This cannot continue.

When former President of Israel Reuven Rivlin finished reading the report on childhood poverty, he responded,

"Our job – now – is to act; to do more for the future of our children."

That is what I am challenging you to do – act.

It is one thing to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, but would you add feet to your prayers by joining with us in sowing a seed into the Abraham's Bread Feeding Centers that are serving needy children and families?

Your prayers and gifts of any size make a real difference as a practical expression of God's love to these precious ones.

Through Abraham's Bread feeding centers, all citizens of Israel (Jews, Arabs, and Christians) who are suffering in poverty can receive assistance and food.

Here is how you can make a difference:

$9 provides a hot meal for a child
$18 feeds a young couple who are struggling
$54 cares for a new immigrant for a week
$270 provides a family of 5 with nutritious meals for a week

Together let us continue to pray and work for the peace of Jerusalem and a hopeful future for her children.
