My friend Rabbi Curt Landry always has a NOW word for the Body...the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding most definitely rests on him.

This word is so good and so needed, as many have been dealing with attacks coming their way.

Rabbi Curt shares here:

It is easy to say to someone, "Battle in the opposite spirit," but not everyone will understand what that looks like. And while it is not always going to appear the same from one battle to the next, examples are useful for building hope and, of course, demonstrating how battling in the opposite spirit CAN appear. First, let us look at a few biblical examples of battling in the opposite spirit...

I encourage you to slowly and carefully take in this spirit-filled word from Curt Landry...it will greatly benefit you in life's trials right now! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Enjoy!

When the enemy attacks, it is easy to give in to doubt, unbelief, fear, or self-condemnation...but this is hardly overcoming. God made us to be overcomers, and the way we do that is by battling in the opposite spirit! When the enemy tries to spread lies in our ears and minds, we need to stand in God's truth!

Discover the importance of battling in the opposite spirit and how YOU can overcome!

Battling in the Opposite Spirit

When the enemy tries to enslave us with one thing, we need to move in the opposite spirit to overcome. But what does that look like, and how do we bring God's ways and truth into the battle?

Well, it is important to realize that not every battle is going to be the same. They can vary in intensity, length, and focus, yet one thing that always remains the same is our God. He created us to be overcomers and has given us His Word and Spirit so that we can do this, so that we can battle in the opposite spirit!

Now, there are battles that may only last for a day, but some last longer. And just because a battle does not end after we battle in the opposite spirit once does not mean that we are losing the battle. In fact, God is known for taking what the enemy meant for evil and turning it for good...creating a strength of character, faith, and endurance out of such testing...creating in us those characteristics that are needed to answer the specific call He has given us.

"Through faith's power they conquered kingdoms and established true justice. Their faith fastened onto their promises and pulled them into reality! It was faith that shut the mouth of lions, put out the power of raging fire, and caused many to escape certain death by the sword. Although weak, their faith imparted power to make them strong! Faith sparked courage within them and they became mighty warriors in battle, pulling armies from another realm into battle array." (Hebrews 11:33-34 TPT)

Battling in the opposite spirit is certainly a test of faith. Yet, without testing, what would our faith be? As the Word of God says in James 2:20, faith without works is dead! Even Jesus was tested. He also had to battle in the opposite spirit! But in such testing, He, and many who believed in Him, were made strong!

"But someone will say, 'You have faith, and I have works.' Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works." (James 2:18)

What Does Battling in the Opposite Spirit Look Like?

It is easy to say to someone, "Battle in the opposite spirit," but not everyone will understand what that looks like. And while it is not always going to appear the same from one battle to the next, examples are useful for building hope and, of course, demonstrating how battling in the opposite spirit CAN appear. First, let us look at a few biblical examples of battling in the opposite spirit. (Photo via The Noun Project)

Joshua and Caleb

Joshua and Caleb were two of twelve Israelites sent as spies into the Promised Land after God brought them out of Egypt. The other spies spoke only of the giants in the land and the many dangers that they would face should they go to take the land God had promised them...but Joshua and Caleb battled in the opposite spirit. They listened to the voice of faith and truth, standing on God's promises, and telling the children of Israel that they were well able to take the land!

"Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, 'Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.'" (Numbers 13:30)

Daniel

Daniel was thrown into a lion's den and sealed within it. This was a situation that almost everyone on Earth would fear, but instead of giving in to fear, Daniel battled in the opposite spirit. He stood in faith, trusting in the truth and ways of God to save him.

"My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him..." (Daniel 6:22)

Hannah (the Prophet Samuel's Mother)

Not every battle relates to trusting God for our lives. Some are tied to provision, to obedience, to endurance, and so forth.

Hannah was the mother of the prophet Samuel. Yet, for years prior to Samuel's birth, Hannah was barren. In addition to the emotional pain she suffered and the shame of her barrenness, she was constantly provoked by her rival, who had many children and tried to cause Hannah to believe lies...lies of worthlessness, that she would never have a child, taunting her year by year.

But Hannah decided after years of this that enough was enough. She was going to battle in the opposite spirit! So she prayed to the Lord, promised Him the son she was believing for, and stood in faith; a faith so strong that when she left from her praying, she went away with joy, awaiting the truth that she now stood on instead of the lies (see 1 Samuel 1).

Widows, Rahab, and Peter

From widows...who were obedient to listen to God's prophets, instead of the lies of their circumstances, and thereby received financial increase and healing for their children...

To Rahab...who had lived a life of prostitution but believed enough in the one true God that she was willing to hide the Israelite spies; saving her family and setting her in alignment with God so that she could be in the lineage of Jesus...

To Peter...the disciple who did as Jesus said and caught a fish with a coin large enough to pay his and Jesus' taxes!

All of these people battled in the opposite spirit. They walked in faith instead of fear; obedience instead of self-indulgence or doubt; God's opinion of who they were instead of the enemy's. And because of their battling in the opposite spirit, they were not only freed from what was attacking them, they were blessed and positioned for their true calling in God's Kingdom plan!

"So, from now on, we refuse to evaluate people merely by their outward appearances. For that's how we once viewed the Anointed One, but no longer do we see Him with limited human insight. (Photo via Unsplash)

"Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new person. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new. And God has made all things new, and reconciled us to Himself, and given us the ministry of reconciling others to God." (2 Corinthians 5:17-18 TPT)

These few biblical examples provide amazing insight into how God works and how we too can battle in the opposite spirit. But perhaps some uncertainty still remains on what battling in the opposite spirit looks like?

How We Can Battle in the Opposite Spirit

Let us explore a few examples of how WE, like those who followed God in past days, can battle in the opposite spirit...

• If we battle FEAR, we fight with FAITH.

• If we battle SADNESS, we fight with JOY.

• If we battle SELF-DOUBT, we fight with GOD'S TRUTH (who HE says we are).

• If we battle CONFUSION, we fight with GOD'S WORD.

• If we battle a JUDGING SPIRIT, we fight with LOVE.

These are only a few examples of what battling in the opposite spirit can involve, and we can use more than one weapon to do this—such as combining faith and God's Word, or love and obedience; but the key is to turn to God's ways and thoughts...to truth instead of lies! Each time we do this, we weaken the attack of the enemy and strengthen our own faith!

Every time we choose to battle in the opposite spirit and stand with God, we are taking a Kingdom view. And this obedience, this faith, allows so many good doors to open and bad doors to close—doors that can only be opened and closed by our God!

"...the Holy One, the true one, who has David's key, who opens doors that none can shut and who closes doors that none can open." (Revelation 3:7 TPT)

With the Holy Spirit inside us, we also have the Father's promises, Jesus' sacrifice and continued intercession on our behalf, and His Word! He has empowered His people to battle in the opposite spirit of whatever does not align with our Father's ways! From teaching us to stand in faith, to finding joy in the Lord, to living in the truth of our God, each battle can bring something good when we turn to God first...not man, but God!
