"The Lion of Judah Is With You"

It is the time of year when the warm days are coming back to the northern lands, and this means that my wife Lydia and I have been gardening. My wife has planted her garden boxes and her flower beds. There is so much new life taking place around us – it's so wonderful. Many of the plants and flowers are like old friends so it brings us joy to see new life appearing again.

We had our home built back in 2017. The property was stripped of all trees. When we came here it was very sad because, at our old house, we had gardens that were very mature; trees stood over forty feet tall and a lot of the plants we inherited were healthy and growing. All we had to do was maintain what others had already planted. I even had a swing hanging from one of our trees at our last house and my children spent many hours flying through the sky on it...I still remember their laughter.

But when we moved here that was not the case. In the last three years I have planted many trees and I have dug many flower beds for my wife. She has a wonderful green thumb that she inherited from her mother, who also has wonderful gardens.

A few days ago, I came home with two new trees. We live in Canada and the maple tree is a symbol of our nation. These trees are magnificent in any garden. When they are mature, they provide shade from the sun most of the day, you just have to move your chair with the shadow. (Photo via Pixabay)

When I brought home the young maple, my wife and I went to the backyard to see where we might plant it. We have a lot of space back there. It is an oversized yard in the country. There were literally hundreds of places where we could have planted that tree. I asked Lydia to choose the spot (for you men out there, this is the safest thing to do because, as they say, "A happy wife is a happy life"). She chose a spot about forty feet from the house, and my sons and I began to dig the hole.

Our soil is very rocky. It is one of the pains that we face with the property that we are on. Digging holes can be challenging because eight or nine inches below the grass you hit rock, but this hole was even rockier than some of the holes we dug for trees last year. We ended up digging up a rock that could be used as a chair for some of the smaller children whenever we have fires in the backyard. It took an hour to dig a hole for that tree.

The Lion

Last year we needed to finish the lawn, so we had a company come in and they literally dumped eight or nine truckloads of soil and fill to finish that yard. The children used to play with their toys back there and some of the toys got buried when the men were doing their work.

Well, a few days ago, after I dug up that big rock, my son noticed a very yellow object underneath some of the soil. He was afraid to touch it. He thought it was some kind of living creature. His fear made me a little concerned also, but I touched it and when I did, I realized it was hard plastic. It was the head of a lion that came from one of their LEGO sets. It had been buried when the landscapers did their work the year before.

The Lion of Judah appeared to me twice a couple of years ago. Since then, every time I see a lion I am strengthened to believe God for breakthrough. We are living in strange times where there is a disease that has threatened to destroy a generation. Many people have been struggling in this time. There are those who have struggled with the physical disease and then there are those that have struggled mentally and spiritually. I think the latter two have had an even greater impact on us than the disease itself. The destruction that has come cannot even be measured; businesses and livelihoods have been lost. In 18 months, I have not been able to travel for ministry. This has been difficult for me.

When I saw the lion that I had unburied, I considered the chances that I had of actually digging it up. My yard is very big; I could have planted that tree in hundreds of places, but my wife chose a spot where this lion was located. God was speaking; I knew that He was with me and that He had roared, and that the enemy's plans for my life will fail.

"What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." (Romans 8:37)

"No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of Me, saith the LORD." (Isaiah 54:17)

We are in a war, but the promise in Christ is that we will have the victory. Even when we go through valley of death, He is with us and He will not allow us to be destroyed. The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy but Jesus comes with abundant life. You will make it through. God is with you and you will overcome all things.
