From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

Steve Shultz

I'm amazed at the revelation in this recent word by Steve Porter. You can tell he has spent much time in the secret place with the Lord...AND our same spiritual father, the late Wade Taylor, has sown great wisdom seeds into him!

I've always been fascinated with the profound words in the first chapter of Ezekiel...concerning the "wheel within a wheel."

Steve Porter shares this from the late Wade Taylor:

I can't tell you how many times I heard the late Wade Taylor use this phrase over the years in his messages: "The wheel within the wheel." It was he who caused me to run to the throne to seek for a present word from the Lord on Ezekiel's wheel. I wanted more truth and clarity that comes with a request from a seeker's heart.

Steve Porter most definitely has a "seeker's heart" regarding this and offers key insight in how it relates to us today.

I won't give it away...read this awesome word for yourself and learn how to become the "wheel within a wheel"! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Enjoy!

The Revelation of Ezekiel's wheel within a wheel is a divine mystery to the Body of Christ. There have been a number of commentators over the years that have given their best interpretations of this divine revelation, but the wheel has remained a mystery in the minds and hearts of most Christians.

This is much like lifting a diamond into your line of sight, where you will see the glistening rays of light flash from many different angles. Each angle is unique, bringing new and more beautiful flashes of light, yet it is still one single entity, just like the revelation of the wheel. Each ray of greater revelation makes up the wheel within the wheel. I humbly shine my bit of light on this powerful revelation.

The Wheel Within a Wheel

We all know that a wheel is made of a circumference rim within whose center is a hub with spokes that hold the two parts together. But Ezekiel described a vision that stretches our imaginations beyond our understanding of the wheel:

"The appearance of the wheels and their workings was like the color of beryl, and all four had the same likeness. The appearance of their workings was, as it were, a wheel in the middle of a wheel." (Ezekiel 1:16)

The prophet was attempting to describe the appearance of the four creatures he saw in Heaven and how they operated. He noted how they moved as one and how they only went wherever the Spirit of God went.

"Wherever the Spirit wanted to go, they went, because there the Spirit went; and the wheels were lifted together with them, for the Spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels." (Ezekiel 1:20)

We understand from Ezekiel's description that the inner wheel was the source of power and direction for the outer wheel. The inner wheel is like the engine and steering wheel of this mysterious vehicle.

I've prayed over and pondered this article for quite some time because I want to unpack this revelation so anyone can understand and glean its truth. Let's take another look, so we can see for ourselves the glory of the Lord moving and directing its divine purpose. (Photo via Flickr)

"So, Jesus said, 'When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He and that I do nothing on My own but speak just what the Father has taught Me.'" (John 8:28)

"Jesus answered: 'Don't you know Me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, "Show us the Father"?'" (John 14:9)

When Jesus walked the earth, He did what His Father told Him to do, and He spoke only what His Father told Him to say. He never moved independently of the Father. There was a beautiful harmony and flow to Jesus' ministry. To see Him was to see the Father. Jesus was hidden in God. When the Father wanted Jesus to speak a word in season, He spoke as directed to the right person at the right time in the right place. When the Father wanted Jesus to flow in healing and deliverance, Jesus flowed in perfect harmony with His Father's heart and made it happen. When Jesus bled drops of sweat from His very brow, His will was merged with His Father's perfect will.

Luke gives an interesting account of the events that transpired on the Mt. of Olives just before the arrest of Jesus. He was in agony as He came to terms with the mission ahead of Him. It was such a crushing weight that it caused Him to sweat blood. What made it even harder was the fact that the Father wasn't forcing Him to die on the Cross ‚Äď He could just as easily have called it quits, and a legion of angels would be there to whisk Him away to safety (Matthew 26:53). But instead of taking the easy way out, He opted to go with God's will. So, He prayed:

"...Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Thine be done." (Luke 22:42)

This should be the desire and the prayer of every Christian. We all have different goals and aspirations, but we should always aspire to want exactly what God wants, to move and flow at His command. The Scripture teaches that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our hearts. What this means is that if you want and seek His will, then your desires will be aligned with His desires and they will come to pass.

As Jesus yielded to the Father's perfect will, He became willing to roll as an outer wheel being directed by the power of the inner wheel. The inner wheel was the Father who was the divine engine steering Christ's life. Together they flowed in such perfect harmony that it displayed to all mankind the most beautiful coordination men had ever seen. Prefect unity. Perfect movement. Perfect agreement.

So, it is, beloved, that when we desire to go deeper with the Lord, we must yield to the wheel. We have a choice: we can fight the synchronicity of Heaven and demand our own way, or we can die to self and yield (roll) in beautiful harmony with Christ. Once we've died to our own will and chosen to live out His will, we can no longer roll our own way or go where we want to. Christ must become Lord of all. We must die to our own selfish desires to roll where we wish, to say what we want, or to live as we choose.

Becoming a wheel within a wheel is not always pleasant; in fact, the Lord will steer us to places we simply will not want to go! All of this is a process where we learn the source of our power and discover the engine (life of God) and how to flow as a heavenly vehicle (vessel).

At times we will even question the ways of the Lord and why He does things the way He does. It will feel like men are riding over our heads and stirring us into a fire or a swamp of defeat.

"Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but Thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place." (Psalm 66:12)

You see, we would be of no use to the Lord if we rolled our own way, refusing to move in harmony with God. In fact, our wheel would certainly be left to rot in the field, stuck in a ditch and eventually becoming useless. But it is God's divine plan to bring us into Heaven's harmony so we can reach that wealthy place. The wealth I speak of is an inner beauty and inner wealth that can only come by rolling with God as His wheel within the wheel, reflecting His beauty as we behold Him and move in sync with Him.

When He steers us to do the unknown, it's natural to panic; we are being taken to someplace new, where we're no longer familiar with our surroundings. Fear enters our hearts and God seems so far away that we cannot find Him. If only we could realize that it is out of love that the Lord has brought us from the old place called "comfort" so we might be made new. Being the wheel within the wheel is where our desire and will are slowly broken and crushed into little pieces so that we cry out even as He did: "Yet not My will, but Yours be done." Take my life and use it, O Lord. (Photo via Wikimedia Commons)

Becoming a Wheel Within a Wheel

Becoming a wheel within a wheel means letting go of the things the Lord is telling us to and allowing the Holy Spirit to be our guide. This is the true essence of what it means to make Christ our Lord. The word "lord" means owner. So, if He is our owner, then we must stop acting like we're in charge and allow Him to take charge.

The reason why many Christians struggle with the lordship of Christ is that they have yet to die to self. If we die to self, we will approach God much differently. We will come to Him, realizing that as dead people, we know nothing (Eccl. 9:5), and as such, we will allow Him to be our teacher and instructor. When we do this, the Holy Spirit will gladly lead us into all truth so that by that truth, we shall be set free. Scripture teaches that if Christ is in us then we must become dead to ourselves:

"And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness." (Romans 8:10)

If we die to the flesh, Christ will be allowed to come alive in us and we will no longer roll in the flesh. But if we allow the flesh to thrive and steer us, it will be tough to move in the Spirit. The goal of every Christian should be that Christ might increase while we decrease (John 3:30), but that can only happen if we die to self. So, the next time you hear the Lord talking to you, silence the voice of the flesh that will always argue against His will, and obey the voice of the Spirit that you might merge your life with His and live out His will through you. Flow in harmony with the heart of God as He takes you into that deeper abundant life.

"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." (Galatians 2:20)

The wheel within a wheel is a perfect illustration of the relationship we can have with our Lord and Savior. Even though we've been given dominion, it shouldn't be lost on us that we belong to God. The reason the Holy Spirit was sent is so that He can inspire and guide us in everything we do. This is why Paul admonishes us to always walk in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25). Just like the wheel in Ezekiel's vision, we should ensure that we are actively seeking His will and staying in step with His Spirit.

May we always remember that we have an inner wheel that actually steers our lives without which we would be able to achieve nothing. Becoming a wheel within a wheel requires unusual obedience and costly submission, but produces a life that flows in such sweet harmony that others will pause to reflect how that's even possible. And though you may appear mysterious or unique, when your life is hidden in His, you will become a sign and a wonder...a fiery wheel manifesting His glory, and fulfilling His end-time purposes as kings, queens and priests.

May our Father guide us as overcomers deeper into the very manifest presence of the Lord, where we will live out His plan for our lives and our very destiny.
