Jesus, or Yeshua in Hebrew, is referred to as our Redeemer, Deliverer, and Savior of the World. But what do these names mean and how do we apply them to our lives?
As mentioned, Yeshua was Jesus' Hebrew name. This is what His family and disciples called Him. Yeshua means "The LORD is salvation."
"The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles." (Psalm 34:17)
Jesus came because we needed to be redeemed and rescued. He reached into the mire and muck and pulled us out of bad circumstances. So, no matter what you are looking at or how lonely you may feel, Yeshua is your Deliverer and His hand is not short to rescue.
He came for those in need of a savior. He came for you.
Redeemer
Yeshua came with redemption written on His heart and the unity of the One New Man (see Ephesians 2:14-16) etched into His prophesied purpose. The word redeemer in Hebrew is "Ga'al."
Why was Yeshua given the title of Redeemer?
In John 4, we read that the Redeemer came to "save the world"—not just the Jewish people. Yeshua came as the world's Redeemer, which means He came to redeem you and your family. It also means that all of us have situations and circumstances that we need to be redeemed from—and that is okay.
"Then they said to the [Samaritan] woman, 'Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.'" (John 4:42 emphasis added)
The Samaritans are an example of the One New Man. After the Assyrian captivity of northern Israel in 721 BC, part of the lingering nation of Israel intermarried with the Assyrians and became what history calls the Samaritans.
In Isaiah 49, we see the Redeemer's coming and purpose prophesied but not just to the nation of Israel. It was for "you peoples far away." This means the power of His redemption was prophesied and always intended for all of us—always intended for you.
"Coastlands, listen to Me; listen, you peoples far away... So now Adonai says—He formed Me in the womb to be His servant, to bring Ya'akov back to Him, to have Isra'el gathered to Him, so that I will be honored in the sight of Adonai, my God having become my strength—He has said, 'It is not enough that you are merely My servant to raise up the tribes of Ya'akov and restore the offspring of Isra'el. I will also make you a light to the nations, so My salvation can spread to the ends of the earth.'" (Isaiah 49:1, 5-6 CJB) (Photo via Unsplash)
In other words, He says, "Listen, you peoples from far away: I always came for you and I was always coming for you. You were My purpose. You were My intention. Anything that did not include you was 'not enough.' You were not a second thought, you were not 'Plan B.' The Father sent Me for you."
In this season, many battle loneliness and depression. Today we encourage you to remember that Yeshua came as your "Ga'al." He came as your Redeemer. He saw you then and He sees you now.
He came to spread salvation over you—to the very ends of your life and every "impossible" circumstance. He came to light the way and cover you in His great love and redemption. He came to restore you because the Father sought your heart. You are redeemed.
"Thus says the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One, to him whom man despises, to him whom the nation abhors, to the servant of rulers: 'Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel; and He has chosen you.'" (Isaiah 49:7)
A.C.T.
A - Apply the promise of redemption, "you peoples far away."
C - Change your thoughts of distress to rest in the Redeemer who came to rescue you, covering you with His great love.
T - Transform as you listen to the words of your Redeemer tell you that you were not a second thought. He was sent by His Father for you.
Yeshua came to redeem and restore you. Yeshua came because He is faithful—faithful to Israel and faithful to you.
The Holy One chose His one and only Son. And He chose you too.
Deliverer
Adonai, which means Lord and Master, delivered David from the power of all his enemies. Adonai was David's Rock, Fortress, Deliverer, Shelter, Shield, Saving Power, Stronghold, Refuge, and Savior. He delivers you too.
Why was Yeshua given the title of Deliverer?
Deliverer means one who rescues another from harm or danger. What does Jesus deliver us from? He delivers us from the hands of the enemy. He delivers us from the bondage of sin and slavery. His Blood covers us so that the angel of death cannot harm us.
"Then David spoke to the Lord the words of this song, on the day when the Lord had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. And he said: 'The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; the God of my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; my Savior, You save me from violence.'" (2 Samuel 22:1-3)
Just like David, we need a Deliverer, Shelter, and Savior. This is the reason Yeshua came, just as it was prophesied and fulfilled.
"And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: 'The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; for this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.'" (Romans 11:26-27)
Yeshua came out of Zion. He came for Zion. He also came for you—to deliver, to rescue, and to save.
A.C.T.
A - Apply the Word of 2 Samuel. Proclaim that Yeshua is the Deliverer and has the power to rescue you from all of your enemies.
C - Change your mindset from fear to freedom. Tell your enemies, in Yeshua's name, you are free!
T - Transform as you step behind the shield of faith and the horn of your salvation, and allow the Spirit to transform your doubt to deliverance. (Photo via Unsplash)
No matter the circumstances you are in, Adonai has the power to deliver you from ALL your enemies. No giant is too large and no storm is unsurmountable for your God. Today, join David in his confession of praise from 2 Samuel 22:2-3 (CJB emphasis added):
"...Adonai, [You are] my Rock, my fortress and deliverer, the God who is my Rock, in whom I find shelter. [You are] my shield, the power that saves me, my stronghold and my refuge. [You are] my Savior, You have saved me..."
The Deliverer Yeshua has saved you.
Savior of the World
Yeshua alone is the Savior of the World. He is the very essence of kindness and love from the Father's heart to yours.
Why was Yeshua given the name Savior of the World?
The Lord said that there was no savior besides Him. Yeshua was sent not to condemn the world but to save it, thus proving the title of Savior of the World.
He came to save the world from destruction and bring salvation.
"'Yet I am the Lord your God ever since the land of Egypt, and you shall know no God but Me; for there is no savior besides Me.'" (Hosea 13:4)
"For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." (John 3:17)
Yeshua is mercy poured out. He offers us spiritual and physical regeneration and renewing through His Holy Spirit. By grace, you are an heir, you are a daughter, a son, and a saved one who has the hope of eternal life through the Savior of the World.
"But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life." (Titus 3:4-7)
Just as the Father poured out kindness and love towards us, may we use this season to pause and pour out kindness and love towards others.
The Savior of the World is the Savior of you!
A.C.T.
A - Apply the saving grace of the Savior. Apply Hosea 13:4, knowing no other can save except the Lord.
C - Change your mindset from that of working for salvation to that of receiving the gift of salvation from the Lord. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
T - Transform by the salvation you have received and the Father's love that continuously pours over you. Decide to walk in love and bless another.
