Christine Vales: "The Month of Growth and Light"

Christine Vales
Dec 17, 2020

From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

Steve ShultzIt took me a long time in life to finally learn that there are many "calendar" events with God. By that I mean events on both the Jewish calendar (being referred to today in this article) and our own Gregorian calendar, which has our regular holidays such as Christmas and Easter and other holidays too.

On the Jewish calendar, this is the month of Tevet, and in this month, God does specific things MORE than other months. During this month on God's calendar, He's emphasizing both GROWTH and LIGHT.

Read on to understand how this will be affecting your life for the next few weeks. It's time to pay attention to what God is saying to you this year.

Be encouraged...God has lined up many amazing things for you...for the next year!

Enjoy! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

"The Month of Growth and Light"

Christine Vales, St. Simons Island, GA

Biblical Month of Tevet 5781 = Dec 16 2020 - Jan 13, 2021

As the youngest child in my family I always wanted to be older. I saw all the privileges my older brothers had and I wanted in; I just wasn't old enough or allowed to do things they were able to do. They could stay up late...while I had to go to bed. They could drive...while I had to ride my bike. They were tall enough to go on the big roller coasters...while I went on the kiddie rides.

How I longed to "be big." I thought to myself, "Will there ever come a day when I will grow and do all that 'fun stuff'?" The answer soon came, and before I knew it, I was old enough to drive and go on the "big" rides. What I didn't realize then is that there's a whole lot of other "stuff" that comes with "being big." Growth means responsibility and servitude. That, my friends, is what this month of Tevet is all about...growing up!

Tevet: The Month of Growth & Light

The word Tevet means "good" and growth is good. The Lord is there to help us grow. Sure, there are growing pains, but as the Word says it is used for maturity (Heb. 12:11). Situations that test our faith and maturity will present themselves; however, in these situations He is present and will never allow more than we can handle. He doesn't leave us alone in the process. He illuminates our path as soon as we step into Tevet, as the candles of the menorah still burn bright from Chanukah. They are a reminder of His Word being a lamp onto our feet and a light onto our path as we grow in Him (Ps. 119:105). (Photo via Public Domain Pictures)

The "Good Eye" vs the "Evil Eye": What Are You Focusing On?

A big part of growth is perspective. Two people can look at the same situation and one sees encouragement while the other sees defeat. It's all how we look at things. The Jews call this the battle of our "good eye" vs our "evil eye." The Lord highlights the importance of vision this month and calls us to see with our "good eye;" to see things from His heavenly perspective. This is underscored in this month's Hebrew letter, "Ayin," which depicts an eye and is associated with vision and focus. It's a great time to ask the Lord to bring our lives into His focus and priorities. This may include reviewing our education to see where He is calling us to advance or remain steady in our current position. He is calling us to meditate on His promises and those prophetic words He spoke over us, and to be encouraged in His truth and love, moving forward in His purpose for us.

What are you focusing on this month? What are you imagining for the month ahead? Is this bringing you fear or peace? Bring Him your plans and allow His perfect love to cast out all fear as He orders your steps. You will begin to see things from His vantage point and experience His wisdom, peace, rest and most of all, His love.

Maturing in Your Calling = Submission to God

The tribe of Dan is connected with Tevet and instills valuable lessons on maturity. The name Dan means "to judge or rule." This alone requires maturity. Dan was positioned as the rearguard of the Lord's army as they moved in the wilderness and in battle. They were strong warriors and knew how to take down their enemy without even touching them. This is foretold in Jacob's prophecy over him: "Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a serpent in the way, as a horned snake in the path, that bites the horse's heels, so that his rider falls backward" (Gen. 49:16-17).

Wow! Now that's what I call moving in your gift! Yet, not everyone in this tribe moved in his calling. Samson was from the tribe of Dan and was called to be a deliverer of Israel. However, Samson did not submit or grow in the Lord. Samson allowed his passions to control him. In the end, after losing his strength and sight, Samson finally submitted his will to the Lord. In his last and final battle, he brought down pillars, knocking down the enemy without even touching them, but losing his life in the process. May we submit to the Lord's call over our lives, that we may grow in Him, learn His ways, and bring deliverance to others. (Photo via Wikimedia Commons)

Giving His Spirit Dominion Over Your Flesh

Lastly, getting our emotions under control is another sign of maturity. If we're in battle this month, anger may arise in us, but the Word says we can be angry "but sin not" (Eph. 4:26). He empowers us, by His Spirit, to do so.

Let's allow the fruit of the Spirit within us to have dominion over our flesh!

Planting the Seed of Maturity: What Areas of Your Life Need Growth?

So are you ready to "be big?" Now is the time! Ask the Lord which areas of your life need growth. Write them down and be encouraged in Him. This seed you plant will reap rewards of maturity.

Is this not what growth is about? Are you allowing your "evil eye" to rule over you? Ask the Lord to show you His heavenly perspective. Are you facing a battle? "Be angry...but sin not" by tapping into His Spirit within you. The Lord will surely show you strategies to take down the enemy without even touching him, like Dan. Take time get His vision on moving forward in maturity in your work, ministry, education, etc. May He "grow you up" this month so you can say what Paul said, "When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things" (1 Cor. 13:11).

The Lord gave Christine Vales a deep desire to serve and point others to Him just before the turn of the century. It has been a beautiful journey and she is still discovering the gifts He planted in her—to use them to serve others and bring glory to Him! Most recently while Christine and her husband, Carlos, began exploring the Hebrew roots of their Christian faith, Christine discovered the Lord's prophetic calendar. The Lord began to stir her prophetic gift through understanding His appointed times and seasons as they were understood by His people, and the need for them to be understood today! After several years of studying and creating her own handwritten Hebrew/Gregorian Calendar, Christine created and released the first edition of "His Appointed Times: Hebrew/Gregorian Calendar & Journal" in 2017. Christine continues to follow His calling in the prophetic, as she has since the beginning of her story, where she faithfully is lifting up her voice to the Lord and raising her eyes to the fields...for they are already white for harvest (John 4:35)!
