Here is a relatively complete listing of all who have trouble with discerning God's specific TIMINGS for what He has promised. Ready?

1. Apostles, 2. Prophets, 3. Pastors, 4. Teachers, 5. Evangelists, 6. Intercessors, 7. All of God's People, and 8. ALL PEOPLE.

If you can find yourself in this list (and some of you are in there several times), I'm 100% guaranteeing that...you've had to learn about God's timing, you're, right now, still learning more about God's timing, and finally, you'll continue for the rest of your life to learn about God's timing.

It took hundreds of years, after the prophet prophesied this, for the prophecy to come to pass in Isaiah 7:14, "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and will call Him Immanuel."

I'm only guessing that when Isaiah prophesied that, he expected it to happen soon, certainly in his lifetime. But there's that timing thing!

When God makes you a promise through Scripture, through a prophet, or directly to you, you'll still have to seek and trust God for the timing of the promise coming to pass.

I want to share some revelatory insight, practical steps and answer questions that you may have about this word titled, "The Timing of the Lord."

I have felt strongly for some time now—and even more so coming into this season—that we are moving into the perfect timing of the Lord. I believe that this timing is so strategic. We are at the right place at the right time—in His impeccable timing.

I want to share with you and touch on the topic of 'timing.' I think this topic can be a challenging one to talk about, because I believe many of us get so discouraged at times when we don't understand the timing of the Lord. We want things to happen now and in our timing, but in reality, we are not even ready for them to happen.

The Lord has to thoroughly prepare you not only for His perfect timing, but also for what you are going to step into, especially concerning His promises and fulfillment in "The Timing of the Lord."

Our timing is not the Lord's timing and it never will be. He has the most impeccable timing, with all things transpiring and coming together. It is a matter of waiting and trusting in Him and His timing. Many times we get sidetracked, distracted or impatient, which causes delay. Have you ever heard that saying, "Going back around the mountain"? Well, that pretty much sums it up. We wait longer than we should have waited, or move in the same old pattern of our timing and not God's, and end up having to go back around that mountain again.

It reminds me of the story of Abraham and Sarah. Sarah was impatient and came up with her own plan to fulfill the promise of God. She wanted a son and was tired of waiting, so she bore Ishmael, which was not the promise God had made to Abraham and Sarah. The promise of Isaac did come to pass, just as the Lord said it would, but it was in His timing.

Impatience causes delay. If you are impatient, then the Lord has to work in your heart to prepare you. It is also a sign you are not in His timing yet.

It is imperative that we wait on the Lord and for His timing and not get frustrated, impatient, or discouraged in the process of waiting.

Questions About God's Timing

Here are some questions you may have pondered about His timing:

There is always warfare prior to coming into God's timing. This is one of the key indicators that you are coming into alignment in the heavenly realms with His timing. If you are experiencing tremendous amounts of warfare, then you can know the enemy is fighting against the alignment for you to enter into God's timing.

Distractions are also another indicator, as they are meant to distract you from what is really happening behind the scenes. The enemy wants to meddle with you, keeping you from focusing on what is happening in reality and what is about to come to pass. Things that the Lord has spoken to you will start coming to pass when you are in alignment with His timing.

How do you align with the timing of the Lord? By yielding to His ways, His leading, and what His will is, which is to bring His plans to pass in His timing.

The biggest problem I have seen with this is when impatience comes in, causing us to not only miss what the Lord is doing, but what He plans to come to pass. You have to yield any form of control and let go of how you think, and when the fulfillment of the promise is going to happen. When we focus on the Lord and not our situation, we grow in our faith, learning to trust Him more, and are rewarded with His strength. Then we will find that suddenly, almost without our noticing, the Lord will bring something to pass because your eyes were on Him and not the situation, circumstance or promise.

"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31 NKJV)

What is the purpose of waiting on His timing? So that you don't mess things up before they do come to pass. You see, while you are in the process, preparation and refiner's fire, the Lord is delivering you and healing wounded areas of the heart that would later hinder you or even mess things up. He doesn't have you wait because He doesn't want to fulfill His promise; He has you wait so He can prepare you for the fulfillment of His promises. In the waiting, the Lord brings you closer in intimacy in your relationship with Him, which has great purpose.

5 Practical Things to Remember When Waiting on the Lord

Here are 5 practical things to remember while you wait for God's timing:

1. Press Through. Don't give up if you experience a lot of warfare. Press through, break through and endure. Let the Lord have His perfect work in you even while you are in the warfare.

2. Stay focused. Distractions will come; stay focused on the Lord and what He is telling and leading you to do, regardless of how it looks.

3. Be patient. Don't get impatient while waiting or try to make things happen yourself, it will cost you greatly later on.

4. Let go. Let go of how, when and where you think it is going to happen, and know He has a set, appointed time for it to happen.

5. Trust. Trust that His timing is perfect and better than your timing will ever be. Be at peace and trust that the Lord is orchestrating many things and intertwining them together while you wait. This is a good thing, as you want the best when the Lord does bring His promises to pass in His perfect timing.

Ecclesiastes 3:11, "Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end." (Photo via PickPik)

Acts 1:7, "...He said to them, 'It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.'"

Habakkuk 2:3, "For the vision awaits an appointed time; it testifies of the end and does not lie. Though it lingers, wait for it, since it will surely come and will not delay."

A Prayer for You to Pray, Declare and Decree:

Lord, thank You for bringing me into alignment with Your perfect timing. If I have been impatient, frustrated or discouraged in the waiting, Lord, I repent. If there is any door to the enemy that was opened because of this, may it be closed now, and may the peace of God invade and surround my atmosphere.

Remove anything or anyone that would hinder or delay Your timing. Do what You need to do in me to prepare and position me for Your perfect timing. Prepare my heart, my mind and my emotions so that I don't go ahead of You, Lord, but wait patiently, trusting You and walking in Your perfect peace—knowing You have all things in Your hands, including Your appointed times for my life.

Let the alignment of Heaven come into my life, atmosphere, and all that surrounds me. Let every demonic assignment, assault, plot and scheme of the enemy sent to try and destroy, delay or hinder Your timing be completely dismantled and broken. Send your angels to help bring me into what you have planned and orchestrated in this season and time. In Jesus name, amen!
