Chris Overstreet: "What Is Revival?"

Chris Overstreet
Aug 12, 2020

From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

Steve ShultzI've sure enjoyed getting to know this young man, Chris Overstreet, who's a revivalist and evangelist.

We've interviewed him on a couple of our Elijah Streams TV programs and we attended a huge Compassion to Action event he had at the Portland Convention Center a couple years ago.

Chris loves this nation and is all about reviving it!

Not only is this a prophetic word, it's also a teaching message to help activate you toward revival here and now...which our country desperately needs.

Take heed to Chris' words here and let God speak to you personally about the revival you can bring right where you're at. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

"What Is Revival?"

Chris Overstreet, Camas, Washington

"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear." – Mark Twain

The Holy Spirit is stirring the hearts of men and women across America and revival fires are blazing up in hearts. "What is revival?" you may ask. Revival is when God stirs the hearts of His people to love Him so that they can step into their rightful identity as children called by God. Revival is God reminding us of His love.

Reviving the Heart

When God revives your heart, He reminds you of the vast love He has for you and for the people around you. Love over hate and compassion over fear will begin to grow in the hearts of those who have made the commitment to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. This revival love is the resuscitation of the heart for God and His purposes in the land.

When God revives your heart, He reveals and strips away pride as well as the lies that have robbed you of courage. God pulls out of your heart the fear of man, the fear of rejection, the fear of failure, and the fear of missing out in life through the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

The Source of True Courage

God's love is the source of true courage. And we have a great need for courage in this hour! It takes courage to love and to stand up for those who are weak. It takes courage to do what you know you need to do even when you feel afraid of doing it. It takes courage to rest in peace in the midst of a storm. It takes courage to walk on water! But someone has to step out of the boat. And when our eyes are on Jesus, it is amazing the miracles that can take place right in front of us. (Photo via Unsplash)

The assurance of God's love allows us to remain in peace. When you step out of peace into fear, you surrender your courage and begin to shrink back and hide instead of arising and shining.

After Jesus' death on the Cross, the disciples hid out of fear of persecution from the Jewish leaders. But Jesus Christ, the Resurrected One, interrupted their fear with peace. He walked into their room and said, "Peace be with you." Then He showed them the holes in His hands and feet to prove it was Him.

After eating something, He told them a second time, "Peace be with you." Then Jesus told them they were being sent into the world to represent Him. He breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit." This generation is in need of the Holy Spirit and His power that reveals the heart of God.

The foundation of the throne of God is righteousness and justice. The nations are crying out for justice, but true justice that produces the courage needed to see change and to impact people for eternity is directly connected to righteousness. Righteousness is the nature of God and also the impartation of His grace to enable us to live with love and courage.

Live Under the Shadow of the Almighty & not the Shadow of Fear

On December 7th 2019, the Lord spoke to my heart, "In 2020, you will need courage." I had no idea what was in store for us in 2020, but it is evident that this was the word of the Lord for us – to seek God for courage and not to lose heart.

America will see riots that turn into revival because of hearts that have chosen not to live under the shadow of fear but under the shadow of the Almighty. (Photo via Flickr)

Read and Consider

Below, I would like to invite you to read this passage and then consider four questions.

"Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, 'Peace be with you.' When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

"So Jesus said to them again, 'Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.' And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.'" (John 20:19-23)

• How is Jesus revealing Himself to me through this passage?

• What is the invitation that Jesus is giving to me to step into?

• How will I obey Jesus in what He is showing me?

• Who can I share with this week about what Jesus is teaching me?
