God Prepares His People
Historically, in the earth, there have been seasons of famine, economic depression, and calamity. Many in the world fear these seasons. God, in His mercy, always prepares His people. God not only prepares His people for such seasons, but can cause them to prosper in trying times. God gives us a promise that no major events will happen in the earth unless He first reveals it to one of His prophets.
Amos 3:7, "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets." God doesn't just adhere to this prophetic protocol for the sake of revealing what is to come.
The prophet Amos shares the prophetic protocol that God's has established as part of His early warning system. When things happen in the earth, God has not only revealed it in advance to some, but has had many praying sometimes years in advance for your way of escape and for you to flourish in famine. Obstacles may appear your way, but God has already gone ahead of us through prayers offered up to deal with them. Isaiah 45:2, "I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight." A New Testament Example
We see an example of this prophetic promise being fulfilled in the early Church in the Book of Acts. Acts 11:27-28, "And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the spirit that there should be great death throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar." Several historians mention this famine, which affected the Roman Empire and the Middle East. Many died from starvation throughout the region of Syria and Israel.
Before this crisis, God had forewarned and prepared His people for the short period of hardship to come within their region. The Church was not as impacted by this season due to the prophetic insight released to it. Acts 11:29, "Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judea." God had a relief effort already in the works for Believers before a worldwide famine hit.
The Joseph Anointing
One of the most intriguing and profound persons in the Bible is the patriarch Joseph. Joseph operated in a powerful, prophetic anointing. He had the keen ability to interpret dreams and visions. Even greater than his ability to interpret, was his ability to exercise supernatural wisdom in response to the revelation of God. The anointing that God bestowed upon Joseph enabled him to save the posterity of an entire people group – the nation of Israel. We need this type of anointing in our season now to preserve and prosper families, churches, and communities by divine grace.
The tribe of Issachar symbolizes the Joseph anointing released, not to a single individual but to a corporate group. 1 Chronicles 12:32, "And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do..." I believe in this hour God is desiring to release this anointing not to one individual or select group, but to the Body of Christ at large. (Photo via Unsplash)
A Spiritual Goshen
The land of Goshen is the region adjacent to Egypt that Joseph settled the nation of Israel during a great famine. It was a natural safe haven, as it was suitable for crops and livestock in the region. God nourished them during the last five years of a global famine (Genesis 45). Goshen was the place that Moses led the children of Israel out from Egypt to Succoth during the Exodus. It would have been a major location where the children of Israel were protected from the tenth plague against Egypt.
As New Testament Believers, we should not be concerned about living in the physical region of Goshen, but living in the "spiritual reality" of Goshen. By faith we can access the divine promises of God that pertain to health, prosperity, safety, peace and protection.
2 Peter 1:3, "According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that has called us to glory and virtue."
As we increase in the knowledge of Him (the Lord Jesus), we learn to live out of Him. Jesus becomes our spiritual Goshen. He becomes our refuge of safety, healing, protection, and peace. Acts 17:28, "For in Him we live, and move, and have our being." Instead of Goshen being a geographical location, for Believers it can become a spiritual reality. We have a real Goshen in and with us no matter where we abide when we learn to live in Christ and operate out of the Joseph anointing.
A Key Scripture
Testing may come upon the world, but God always has a way of escape for the saints:
1 Corinthians 10:13, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
Prayers
Lord, we thank You for the prophets, seers, watchmen, and intercessors that You have specially anointed to be a part of Your early warning system for Believers. Father, strengthen them and destroy the works of darkness sent to derail them. Father, help us to discern true prophetic voices who deal in authentic revelation and heavenly insight, so we may be prepared for every trial and take advantage of every divine opportunity to prosper. Father, give us a Joseph anointing that we may deal righteously and with prophetic wisdom and that we might abide in a spiritual Goshen in Jesus' name.
