"Discerning Your Ladders and Fields"

I believe it is very important to discern the season you are in. Whenever someone does not know what season they are in, they can easily become frustrated and misuse their time and resources because of it. I don't like to see people become frustrated because of misidentifying their season. When you know your season, you know what tool you should have in your hand.

God has recently been speaking to me about ladders and plows. Are you using the right tool God has given you?

What Field Are You Plowing?

In certain seasons, we will each find ourselves in fields that need to be plowed. However, it is important to know which fields are ours to plow. I've seen many people plow in fields that God had not called them to plow in. Then they waste their energy and effort without seeing any fruit come. We must plow in the right field at the right time. God may even call you to a field that you never would have thought you would find yourself plowing. Be open and willing to plow anywhere God may call you, but make sure you plow only where God has sent you.

As we walk with God, each season is different. I've seen many people get stuck doing things the same way they have been doing them for decades. I honor and encourage consistency, however, I believe we need to stay on the prophetic edge of what God is doing in and through our lives. What works and brings in a maximum harvest in one season will wear you down and frustrate you in another season. We cannot do what we have always done just because that's what we've always done. We must follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in every season.

God is always moving forward and doing something new. Don't plow in the same way in the same field if it is no longer yielding a harvest. God is shifting many people into new seasons and new assignments in this time, but we can only be a part of what He is doing if we are staying close to Him and listening closely for His direction. If you plow in the wrong field for too long you may become frustrated and your heart can become calloused. Put your hands to the plow with all your might but make sure you are in the field God has given you grace for.

What Ladder Are You Climbing?

In certain seasons, God will call us to different types of ladders. Ladders are places of elevation. They bring us from one level to the next. Just like Nehemiah, we need to be climbing the right ladder to build and work on only the walls God has called us to build. Just as we can plow in vain we can also build in vain, unless we are in tune with what God is calling each of us to in each season.

I've seen people work so hard to climb to the top of a ladder, only to reach the top and realize they climbed the wrong ladder. Make sure that whatever you are doing is the will of God. Make sure you have put your hand to the plow in the field God has sent you into, and that you are on the right ladder and building the right wall. It is so important to put our hands to only the things God has graced and sent us to plow and build in each season.

The right thing in the wrong season is still the wrong thing. Discern your season! In this hour we must put our hands to the plow and climb the right ladders, making sure they are the right fields and walls!
