Bobby Conner: What is Your Highest Quest?

by Bobby Conner
Jan 26, 2011

Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:

My friend Bobby Conner is not only a true spiritual father to the Body, but he is one of the most Biblically-oriented prophets of our day. Try to get through even ONE of Bobby's words without reading MANY Scriptures. Bobby Conner is a man of the Word of God: the Scriptures. That is SO important in a prophet.

One last point: Most prophetic people simply must live through what they prophesy about. In this last five-year season, through various trials, I have watched the devil try hundreds of ways to throw me off my focus. Just when I think "I've got it," out from left field comes the most unusual attack that throws me off for as much as a day or two before I get a handle on it.

Please remember us in your giving this year. We are a FOR-PROFIT organization, therefore, your donation will NOT be tax-deductible. What you are doing is helping us take the prophetic word around the world. Simply go to: https://www.elijahlist.com/donations/donation.php and make a quick and easy donation today.

Maintaining your spiritual focus is extremely important during these challenging days of demonic deception and distractions. The foes of our soul, the devil and his demons, seek to draw us away from the Good Shepherd with alluring schemes and plots.

You can be absolutely sure that satan—and his hellish hordes—will do all they can to derail you.

In Ephesians 6:10-17, Paul exhorts us to be on guard:

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, and against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the Gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

Hold Fast and Retain without Wavering

The powers of darkness know that if they can isolate us from the Lord and His Body, they can devastate our lives. For this reason, the Lord encourages to not forsake the assembling of the saints (Hebrews 10:23-25):

So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His Word. And let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities, Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as Believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.

Our aim should be to echo Paul's victorious statement recorded in 2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought the good (worthy, honorable and noble) fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept (firmly held) the faith." The Lord wants us to finish well. And in order to complete our race, we need to cleave to the Lord and His people.

How do we "hold fast and retain without wavering" all that the Lord died to provide for us: Our hope, our faith, and our love for Him and His people?

Not through works alone. Nor through striving, people pleasing, or our own efforts.

The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart. We must examine our motives, making sure we are in harmony with Heaven's plans and purposes, seeking to know the aim and intent of our heart. What is compelling us to make the choices we make? Why do we say what we say?

Is our goal, for example, to merely establish our ministry?

Do we seek man's approval?

Do we clamor after worldly success, security or power?

Or do we have a higher goal? Do we yearn to establish the KING in His Kingdom?

The Word promises that if we seek first the Kingdom of God, then the Lord will add to us all else (Matthew 6:33).

Advance to Full Maturity

Our true agenda and most noble goal, then, should be attaining Christlikeness in order to advance the King's Kingdom—not our own agendas. We should be motivated to grow in faith and move on to maturity (Romans 8:29).

The writer of the book of Hebrews states that it is imperative that we grow more and more into the likeness of our Lord. In Hebrews 6:1-3 we discover this fact clearly stated:

THEREFORE LET us go on and get past the elementary stage in the teachings and doctrine of Christ (the Messiah), advancing steadily toward the completeness and perfection that belong to spiritual maturity. Let us not again be laying the foundation of repentance and abandonment of dead works (dead formalism) and of the faith [by which you turned] to God. With teachings about purifying, the laying on of hands, the resurrection from the dead, and eternal judgment and punishment. [These are all matters of which you should have been fully aware long, long ago.] If indeed God permits, we will [now] proceed [to advanced teaching].

Scripture reveals that the entire creation is desperately calling out, desiring us to move into our proper inheritance as the revealed manifested sons of God (Romans 8:19). Even a segment of the unseen world is calling us to advance to full maturity—the cloud of witnesses! Those who have gone before us into the heavenlies are longing for us to fulfill our high calling! (Hebrews 11:38-40).

Because of fear and unbelief, some Believers shun the thought that we are called to live as mature, fully manifest sons of God—however, this is clear in Scripture. We read in 1 John 3:1-3:

SEE WHAT [an incredible] quality of love the Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! The reason that the world does not know (recognize, acknowledge) us is that it does not know (recognize, acknowledge) Him. Beloved, we are [even here and] now God's children; it is not yet disclosed (made clear) what we shall be [hereafter], but we know that when He comes and is manifested, we shall [as God's children] resemble and be like Him, for we shall see Him just as He [really] is. And everyone who has this hope [resting] on Him cleanses (purifies) himself just as He is pure (chaste, undefiled, guiltless).

Notice this passage in 1 John 3:1-3 in the King James translation:

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God; and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure.

Is this growth into maturity truly possible? Indeed yes, as the Lord promises that we are "now" the sons of God. How does this maturing happen? The Spirit of Truth can release great insights concerning how to engage Heaven's help in displaying true sonship by attaining true Christlikeness.

Ephesians 4:11-15: And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers. His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ's Body (the Church), [That it might develop] until we all attain oneness in the faith and in the comprehension of the [full and accurate] knowledge of the Son of God, that [we might arrive] at really mature manhood (the completeness of personality which is nothing less than the standard height of Christ's own perfection), the measure of the stature of the fullness of the Christ and the completeness found in Him.

So then, we may no longer be children, tossed [like ships] to and fro between chance gusts of teaching and wavering with every changing wind of doctrine, [the prey of] the cunning and cleverness of unscrupulous men, [gamblers engaged] in every shifting form of trickery in inventing errors to mislead. Rather, let our lives lovingly express truth [in all things, speaking truly, dealing truly, and living truly]. Enfolded in love, let us grow up in every way and in all things into Him, who is the Head, [even] Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One.

Meditate deeply on these verses until the Lord births this revelation within your innermost being. Truly, we are called to be conformed to the image of Christ the KING. He foreknew you and also predestined you "to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren." Pray into this Scripture day and night until this living Word becomes a living reality in your spirit and soul. Nothing, nothing is more necessary than drawing near to our Lord and becoming a friend of God—with His same character and love.

Move in Great Power and Authority

God's plans for His Church are clearly stated in Scripture: we are to move in love, faith, power and authority. The Father's glorious intention is to exhibit through us all the attributes, actions, and authority of Jesus Christ! All, lacking none! He has purposed that, not only in eternity but here in the midst of our battles and temptations, we are to grow "in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ" (Ephesians 4:15).

God has called us to walk in confidence, knowing who we are in Christ and who Christ is within us (Colossians 2:9-10):

For in Him the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead) continues to dwell in bodily form [giving complete expression of the divine nature]. And you [are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead--Father, Son and Holy Spirit—and reach full spiritual stature]. And He is the Head of all rule and authority [of every angelic principality and power].

We are saved and transferred into the Kingdom of His Son, but we are to have a place of power and authority here on earth (Psalm 115:16):

The heavens are the Lord's heavens, but the earth has He given to the children of men.

This truth has its strong foundation in the very first book of the Bible—in Genesis 1:26, when the Lord gave us dominion over everything pertaining to earth.

In 2 Corinthians 5:20, we discover that we are called and commissioned to move in authority as senior representatives, ambassadors, of Christ the King. Remember Christ explained to us that "As My Father has sent Me I am now sending you" (John 20:21). This truth is stated again in 1 John 4:17: "As He is, so are we in the world."

This little word "as" in the above verse holds tremendous significance for us. "As" Christ is right now, seated at the right hand of the Father, so are we, now. This Greek word "as" or the Greek katha, can be translated "just as, even as, in proportion as, in the degree that, since."

In proportion as Christ has authority and power right now in Heaven, so are we. To the degree that Christ is loving right now in Heaven, so are we. Our goal is not just to become a nice church member, but to become like Christ. We are, quite literally, to become partakers of His nature. This truth is revealed in 2 Peter 1:3:

For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that [are requisite and suited] to life and godliness, through the [full, personal] knowledge of Him who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue).

In Hebrews 3:14, we read that "we [have become fellows with Christ (the Messiah) and share in all He has for us, if only we hold our first newborn confidence and original assured expectation [in virtue of which we are Believers] firm and unshaken to the end."

Yes, we are joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17).

Conformity to His Likeness

1 Corinthians 4:20: "For the Kingdom of God is not in word but in power."

The promise is that Christ and His power lives with each of us see (Galatians 2:20):

I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

The love of Christ compels us to push ever forward seeking to shine forth the bright light of hope and love! We are called to reveal Christ in His full redemptive power.

This truth is essential to grasp in our spirit—not just as a doctrinal concept we have heard. We now desire to move on to displayed maturity (Hebrews 6:1)! Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus! "Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of [our] faith" (Hebrews 12:2).

Pray this prayer with me: Father, I ask for Your Spirit of wisdom and revelation to impart these truths to my heart and mind. As Christ is now, so am I in this world. I am crucified with Christ and am now seated with Him—and You have bestowed on me all things that pertain to life and godliness! I believe that you are calling me into full maturity, to display the glory of Christ on this earth. Teach me, Holy Spirit, to walk in the fullness of Christ. Transform me by the renewing of my mind. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me! Amen!
