When I asked God about the political situation in the United States, He gave me three words: mania, momentum, and mobilization. Each word carries a distinct sense of movement, and differentiating between them is vital.
Mania
There are two types of disruption: one disrupts corruption, the other disrupts order. Manias happen when corporate blindness disrupts good social order. Manias stem from irrational but irresistible beliefs that force people to react excessively—sometimes even violently. Yet manias don't just happen; they are the harvests of seeds sown over extended periods. Just as beliefs lead to actions, seeds bring forth harvests. When manias manifest, they reveal the power of seeds previously thought innocuous. Yes, manias can serve as strategic and necessary moments of revelation.
Momentum
Momentum grows organically. It is caused by an idea, concept, or reality whose time has come. John the Baptist announced a new reality: "The Kingdom of Heaven has come near" (Matthew 3:2 NIV). By itself, John's ministry initiated a momentum so powerful that it continued to impact distant nations decades later (see Acts 18:24–19:6). The subsequent ministry of Jesus and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit dramatically accelerated this movement, but it was never smooth sailing. Grassroots movements are often forged and refined in the crucible of fierce, continuous resistance.
In the New Testament, momentum is encapsulated in the word "sent." It says of John the Baptist that "a man came, sent from God, whose name was John" (John 1:6 NET), and of Jesus that "when the appropriate time had come, God sent out His Son" (Galatians 4:4 NET). Jesus Himself proclaimed, "As the Father has sent Me, I also send you" (John 20:21). Just as there are appointed moments in the Scriptures, there are appointed moments in the destiny of every nation; it is up to us to recognize them.
Mobilization
Mobilization is a deliberate, structured process that gives momentum guardrails to run on. When the Israelites were slaves in Egypt, they cried out to God, who delivered them with great signs and wonders. Once they were in the wilderness, Moses went up the mountain and received divine blueprints to establish the people in God's ways. God's works brought momentum; Israel was delivered. God's ways brought mobilization; Israel occupied the Promised Land. (Photo via Pixabay)
Likewise, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John brought deliverance and momentum. The book of Acts, however, brought mobilization as the newly fledged covenant community began to shake cities and nations. Mobilization remains necessary for sustained transformation.
This midterm election is about much more than political outcomes; it is about mobilizing a nation. Without mobilization, momentum dissipates; with it, momentum multiplies. Mobilization lays foundations and builds structures that sustain destiny and glory. It is about beginnings. Those obsessed with endings end up missing the moment. When individuals know who they are, they truly begin to live—and the same is true of nations.
Disrupter or Builder?
President Trump is widely known for being unpredictable. Partly, this is strategic unpredictability. However, Trump is mantled as both a disrupter and a builder. This dual mantle often confuses people because disrupting and building seem diametrically opposed; yet, they can also operate in strategic harmony.
The United States currently stands at a historic juncture in which both dynamics are necessary. When God commissioned Jeremiah, He declared, "Know for certain that I hereby give you the authority to announce to nations and kingdoms that they will be uprooted and torn down, destroyed and demolished, rebuilt and firmly planted" (Jeremiah 1:10 NET). The mandate given to Jeremiah explicitly required both disruption ("uprooted," "torn down," "destroyed," "demolished") and building ("rebuilt," "firmly planted"). Understanding how leaders are mantled in this way clarifies how we must intercede for them.
From Mania to Mobilization
Don't be intimidated by midterm mania. Regardless of the election outcome, the three M's—mania, momentum, and mobilization—will continue to serve God's purpose. Likewise, do not be disoriented: this is a season to both disrupt and build. Rest assured that countless layers and pieces are being aligned behind the scenes. God is working to mobilize the United States for a purpose far greater than she has ever known. Pray it, speak it, believe it, and declare it.
