I Know That Feeling
This is a very personal and vulnerable post. Today as I was getting myself ready spiritually, mentally, and emotionally to do something completely out of my comfort zone, I felt led to go through some of my old journal entries. I picked up one of my journals, and the first one I came across was from 2023. When I opened it, it opened to an entry dated May 8, 2023.
As I began reading, I felt the Lord impressing upon my heart that I needed to share it, because there are many of His children who are feeling exactly how I felt on that day. You're exhausted, overwhelmed, and discouraged. You've tried so many times, stepped out in faith, believed God, only to find yourself facing another disappointment. And now, even though you sense the Lord telling you to move, to step out, to walk through another door, you're afraid. I know that feeling.
I remember wanting to curl up into a little ball, hide in a corner, and never come out. I didn't want to try one more thing. I didn't want to put myself out there again. I didn't want to hope again, only to be disappointed again. Proverbs 13:12 says, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick" (NKJV). It was not a coincidence that the Lord led me to this particular journal entry. I needed to be reminded of this, and I believe He wants to encourage those of you who are on the verge of giving up, those who are standing before a door but are too afraid to walk through it because of what happened the last time. This is exactly what I wrote that day.
Journal Entry: May 8, 2023
I feel overwhelmed, as if everything I do is wrong. I'm being attacked by Jezebel all over again, and always in the same manner. I truly feel like Elijah in the cave when he wanted to die. I'm being tormented in my mind. I feel as if every door I've walked through it's been a failure, and this one is just going to be the same. Always thinking, "This is it!" But it always ends up being a flop.
I have to believe that this is the Lord preparing me for something big, or it's literally me being a failure. I pray that this time is the time. I pray that this door will open bigger doors. I pray that I won't fail, because I cannot take one more failure. I have tried and failed too many times. My pride and my self-confidence are as low as they can be. I don't know how much more I can take. I just feel like quitting. I just feel like staying in my soft little box and not stepping out for fear of failing again. Lord, You are my strength. You are my hope. You only are my joy. I will trust in You. I will keep going, keep trying, even though I feel like quitting. I will not, because You keep cheering me on, and if I have You, I have all I need. You are my strong tower. You are my rock. You are my shelter, my cheerleader. If You are with me, who can be against me? I will try until I will succeed. I will try because You tell me to. I will try because my strength is in You, not in who I am or what I can do. But You are my strength. You in me, the hope of glory!
Jesus, I love You. Jesus, I need You. Jesus, You are the only thing giving me life. I have suffered so much. I have been robbed of so much. But I know You are about to vindicate me. You are going to give me everything that was taken away from me, multiplied. This is restoration time. This is vindication time. This is Promised Land entering-and-possessing time, in the mighty name of Jesus. And it shall come to pass, and it shall come to pass. Amen and amen.
I Will Try Because You Tell Me To
As I read those words again, I became so emotional, because I was reminded of just how broken and discouraged I felt at that time. But even in the middle of my despair, even when everything inside me wanted to quit, I made a decision: "I will try because You tell me to." My trust was, and still is, in Him and His promises!
He is faithful, but He won't rush things just because we are suffering.
He has an appointed time, and I believe this time is the time—THE KAIROS TIME! Just because the last door didn't lead where you expected doesn't mean you should refuse to walk through the one God is placing before you now. We have become so accustomed to disappointment that we are afraid to believe and hope again, afraid to step out, because we don't want to experience the pain of another failure. But I want to encourage you: don't allow the disappointments of yesterday to become the prison that keeps you from stepping into what God has prepared for you today.
Remember Elijah? I felt just like him; I wanted God to take me, because I didn't want to face the pain of the waiting or the disappointment. But God met me there just as He met Elijah in the cave, strengthened him, and gave him further instructions. If this is you too, if you've been hiding in your cave, trying to protect yourself from another disappointment, know that the Lord is meeting you there in your pain, and He's going to strengthen you so you can take another step—the very step that will open the doors you've been praying for. Entering and Possessing Require Movement and Faith
I believe we are in a season of entering and possessing—a season in which the preparation, the wilderness, the waiting, the stretching, and even the disappointments have not been wasted. But entering and possessing require movement and faith. And obedience requires us to take the next step, even when we don't understand or have the strength to.
Joshua 1:3 says, "Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses" (ESV). They still had to put their feet on the ground, cross the Jordan, walk around Jericho, and conquer the land. The Lord is calling you to trust Him again. This is the time. This is the season. This is the open door. If God is telling you to take that step, take it. If He's telling you to begin again, begin again. If He's telling you to leave what is familiar and step into something you've never done before, trust Him. Don't let fear make the decision for you.
I want to leave you with the very words I wrote in my journal on May 8, 2023: "I will try because You tell me to"—just like Simon Peter, when he tried all night to catch fish and felt like giving up, yet at Jesus' instruction said, "'Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at Your word I will let down the nets.' And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking" (Luke 5:5–6 ESV).
He is asking you to lower your nets one more time. But this time it won't be in your own strength, not in your own way, and not according to your timeline, but in His strength, His way, and His time. For the time has come for the harvest to yield its intended fullness! And just as I declared through my tears that day, "And it shall come to pass, and it shall come to pass."
