Demontae Edmonds: Accessing Your Harvest - The Principle of Dominion First

Taking Dominion First

Over the past few days, I have asked God for a word to share with the Body of Christ for this season. I believe this is one of the most significant Rosh Hashanah (Feast of Trumpets) seasons of the last two decades.

As I was walking and meditating before the Lord one morning, I heard this in my spirit from the Holy Spirit: "Harvest will come, but tell the people they will need to take dominion first!" The word "dominion" was strongly emphasized to me.

Wait Until the Crop Has Matured

Harvest is defined as "the process of gathering mature crops" ("Harvest," Wikipedia, February 28, 2026). It is also the season when this gathering happens, or the total crop yield collected.

When I read the word "mature," it makes me think of the "fullness of time" mentioned in Scripture (Galatians 4:4; Ephesians 1:10).

Farmers not only plant seed, water the seed, and allow the crop to grow, but they must also wait until the crop has matured. I remember when I was a young boy, my grandfather grew corn, green beans, and kale in the backyard. He would always emphasize that if you picked a crop too early, it would be counterproductive.

That is how God deals with us. He is always desiring to bring us into a new and fresh harvest, but He waits until we have matured in His Word and Spirit so that we are able to steward the harvest properly.

We find this principle in Acts 2: "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come..." (Acts 2:1 KJV). Pentecost was an intense and powerful moment. It represented both a heavenly harvest and a harvest of souls, with thousands being saved in one day.

However, we must realize that there was a forty-day period between Jesus' resurrection and His ascension, followed by a period of focused prayer and waiting leading up to Pentecost. During this season, the disciples sought God with a new intentionality and focus. They were being prepared and positioned to reap a harvest they had never experienced before. The Principles of Dominion and Harvest

Now, back to the principles of dominion and harvest. I asked the Lord, "Give me a Scripture that shows where dominion is needed before harvest." Instantly, the Spirit of God dropped into my spirit Paul's ministry in Ephesus, as detailed in Acts chapter 19. It was at Ephesus that "all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks" (Acts 19:10 KJV). And, "So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed" (Acts 19:20 KJV).

Ephesus became an apostolic hub of massive harvest. But before this harvest was fully actualized, Paul had to exercise and demonstrate Kingdom dominion! Acts 19:19 reveals how Paul's apostolic ministry confronted the witchcraft and occult practices that held many of the people of Ephesus in bondage: "Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver" (Acts 19:19 KJV). An enormous fortune in occult books and paraphernalia was publicly destroyed! Wow!

Ephesus was also a major center of Diana (Artemis) worship. In the face of such spiritual and cultural opposition, Paul did not back down. He stood boldly in Gospel truth and overcame by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Lord also made known the superior power of His Spirit and the dominion of His Kingdom at Ephesus through demonstrative acts of supernatural power.

Acts 19:11–12 declares, "And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: so that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them" (KJV). The evil spirits did not stand a chance against the dominion and authority of the Spirit of Christ!

When the unbelievers and those involved in occult practices witnessed the superior power and grace of a greater kingdom, many broke covenant with the kingdom of darkness. They became part of God's harvest as they embraced the Gospel and came under the New Covenant of God's grace. In this hour, we will have to exercise greater authority and dominion over new challenges and strongholds that present themselves as we take territory for King Jesus. (Photo via Pexels)

Discerning the Strongholds

We also need the eyes of the Spirit to discern the strongholds that are already present. We have become comfortable and complacent with some of these strongholds, but THEY MUST GO!

When the angel appeared to Gideon, the altar of Baal was already present. No one dared touch it. Gideon's own words revealed that he did not believe he possessed the ability to take dominion, nor did he believe his family had the strength or influence to overcome the powers of the age. Yet the Lord did not entertain Gideon's feelings of inadequacy. Judges 6:14 declares, "Go in this thy might." Notice the words "thy might!" Might had already been given to Gideon. He simply needed to use what God had already placed upon his life to take dominion.

Many of you reading this may not realize the same truth applies to you. Don't wait for an angel. Don't wait for some supernatural moment! Don't wait until you feel more powerful. God has already placed His Spirit within you and given you authority through Jesus Christ.

Go in this thy might! Take dominion, and reap your harvest! Selah.
