Yvon Attia: The Rainbow - God's "Never Again"

The Rainbow Is More than Just a Promise

As I was spending time with the Lord in prayer for the month of August, I began seeing rainbows everywhere in my spirit. It wasn't just during prayer. I would open my phone and unexpectedly see pictures of rainbows. They kept appearing with such frequency that I knew the Lord was trying to draw my attention to something. I felt prompted to go back and read God's covenant with Noah in Genesis 9:11–17.

As I slowly read the passage, something suddenly came alive inside me. I realized that Noah had not survived an ordinary flood. He had survived the greatest flood the world had ever seen. Scripture tells us that every high mountain under Heaven was covered by water (Genesis 7:19–20). Every living creature outside the ark perished (Genesis 7:21–23). For more than a year, Noah remained inside the ark, waiting patiently for God's appointed time. Then one day the door opened, and Noah stepped out into a world unlike anything he had ever known.

Everything familiar had disappeared. Every landmark was gone. The world he had lived in no longer existed. Yet what struck me most was that God never attempted to restore Noah to what he had lost. Instead, He blessed him, recommissioned him, and brought him into an entirely new beginning. Noah wasn't returning to his past; he was walking into a future that had never existed before. His new beginning was not a reset button; it was a complete restart.

Then God established His covenant with Noah and gave him a rainbow as its everlasting sign. For years I had viewed the rainbow simply as God's promise after the flood. However, as I read the covenant again, one phrase seemed to leap off the page more than anything else. Three separate times, God repeated the same words: "Never again."

"Yes, I am confirming My covenant with you. Never again will floodwaters kill all living creatures; never again will a flood destroy the earth... When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember My covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life." (Genesis 9:11, 14–15 NLT)

As I read those words, something happened deep within my spirit. I sensed the Lord speaking to the hearts of many people who have walked through some of the darkest seasons of their lives. So many have endured overwhelming trauma, prolonged sickness, painful disappointment, crushing loss, spiritual warfare, and delays that seemed as though they would never end. Many have been quietly asking, "Lord, how much longer?" Others have prayed, "I never want to walk through something like this again." (Photo via Pexels)

You Are Coming to a New Beginning

As I continued praying, I felt the Lord impress these words upon my heart: "It will end. I am bringing My people into a new beginning."

Just as Noah stepped into a world he had never seen before, I believe the Lord is leading many people into a completely new chapter. The rainbow was never a celebration of Noah's old life. It was God's announcement that a brand-new season had begun. God did not lead Noah back to what he had lost; He led him into something entirely new. The greater the storm, the greater the significance of the rainbow that followed.

I couldn't help but notice that throughout Scripture, God often speaks about decisive endings. Before Israel crossed the Red Sea, Moses declared, "The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again" (Exodus 14:13 NLT). The enemy that had oppressed them for generations would no longer define their future. Likewise, Nahum declared, "Affliction will not rise up a second time" (Nahum 1:9 NKJV). Although these passages were spoken into their own historical contexts, together they reveal something about the character of God. He is able to bring such complete victories that what once held His people captive no longer has the final word.

Then my attention was drawn to the book of Revelation. John was caught up into Heaven and saw the throne of God, and surrounding that throne was the brilliance of an emerald rainbow (Revelation 4:1–3). That picture moved me deeply. The rainbow was not merely a sign given to Noah thousands of years ago. It still surrounds God's throne today. His covenant remains continually before Him. His promises have not been forgotten. Heaven has never lost sight of what God has spoken.

Then John saw another mighty angel descending from Heaven, clothed with a cloud and wearing a rainbow upon his head (Revelation 10:1). Just a few verses later comes the declaration that there would be "delay no longer" (Revelation 10:6–7). I found it remarkable that, once again, the rainbow appears in connection with God's unfolding purposes and the ending of delay.

Isaiah records the Lord saying, "For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland" (Isaiah 43:19 NLT). Throughout Scripture, God reveals Himself as the one who creates new beginnings where people only see endings. He makes roads where there are none. He brings rivers into deserts. He writes new chapters when people believe the story has finished.

The God Who Remembered Noah Is Remembering You

As I reflected on these passages together, I sensed the Lord encouraging His people with hope. Many have wondered how long this difficult season will last. Many have feared that they will spend the rest of their lives carrying the same burdens they have carried for years. Yet I believe the Lord is reminding His people that He is the God who brings them out of the ark. He is the God who closes one chapter and opens another. He is the God of new beginnings.

I believe the rainbow is a reminder that God's covenant is greater than our crisis. It reminds us that after the greatest storms often come the greatest new beginnings. Just as Noah stepped into a world he had never imagined, I believe many are about to step into a season that will exceed what they thought was possible. (Photo via Pexels)

If you have been asking, "Lord, when will this end?" be encouraged. The God who remembered Noah remembers you. The God who placed the rainbow in the sky is still faithful to His covenant. He is still opening doors. He is still making a way through the wilderness. He is still bringing His people into new beginnings. Perhaps that is why I kept seeing rainbows before this month began. I believe they are a reminder that after the storm comes God's covenant, after the waiting comes God's timing, and after one chapter closes another begins.

The storm was never meant to be your final chapter; the rainbow is.

God's Word to You: "Never Again"

I heard the Lord say, "Behold, I am doing a new thing. Watch out for the rainbow. This storm was severe, the pain was real, and I have seen it all. Just as the storm was massive, so will be the blessing, so will be the fruitfulness. But as you step into the month of August, it will be like the eight people who stepped out of the ark during Noah's day. Everything is about to change, for I did not lead Noah back to what he had lost, but rather into a completely new beginning, into a whole new world he never knew even existed.

"Just as I wiped away every familiar landmark, every city, every memory from Noah's world, I will wipe away every tear and every pain from your memory. Watch out for the rainbow! You will see it, for it is a reminder of My covenant. For My rainbow—the sign of My covenant—will not celebrate the end of the storm but announce that a brand-new chapter is about to start.

"I hear My people say, 'The Lord has forgotten me.' And I remind them of the words that I spoke to Isaiah: 'Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of My hands. Always in My mind is a picture of Jerusalem's walls in ruins' (Isaiah 49:15–16 NLT).

"Around My throne is your rainbow, the sign of My covenant with you. Do not fear the future, and do not fear the coming days, for a new season has started—a world you never knew existed. Like I said to Noah three times, 'Never again will life on earth be destroyed,' I repeat those promises to you. Your word this month will be 'never again,' for the transition has already happened. The shift has begun. Do you feel it? Do you perceive it?

"As Noah stepped out of the ark and into this entirely new world, step off in faith and watch Me release you and bless you in a whole different way. For I closed one chapter forever and opened another that has never existed before. And it shall be marked by the rainbow..."
