Siloam means "sent." It's the name of a pool in Jerusalem, and I believe it is a word the Holy Spirit is highlighting to us right now. I pray that as you read, you will encounter God. May He restore identity and awaken purpose in your life.
Destined to Display God's Power
In July 2024, while reflecting on the story of the blind man in John 9, I was struck by how he was literally sidelined from life. Yet his identity was never to be a beggar but a chosen son of God.
Jesus came across him one day. As they passed by the blind man, the disciples asked Jesus, "Rabbi... why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents' sins?" (John 9:2 NLT).
Jesus replied, "It was not because of his sins or his parents' sins... This happened so the power of God could be seen in him" (John 9:3 NLT).
What a powerful encouragement: God works purpose through the darkest things in our lives, the things that we don't even choose. He says, "I am opening your eyes, and all will see My power at work within you."
When Jesus sent the blind man to the pool of Siloam, it was a prophetic sign: his days of sitting on the sidelines were over. From that moment on, he would live as a "sent one."
Seeing with New Eyes
This struck me as though I'd never seen it before! But apparently, I had. Shortly afterward, I came across this journal entry from July 12, 2001, almost twenty-five years ago: "Go, tell My Bride that she is sent. Tell My Church to go wash in the pool of Siloam, which means 'sent' (to wash in the water of My Word, the revelation that every Believer is sent). She will come back seeing" (John 9:7). Then, in early June 2026, I came across this word in my journal, and it resonated strongly. It is a message for right now! The revelation of being sent restores sight, identity, and joy.
Jesus Is Drawing You Closer to Himself
What happened after Jesus healed the blind man? There was no celebration. Instead, the Pharisees interrogated his parents and turned on him. But there is no arguing with the evidence of a miracle! So, they excommunicated the now-seeing man from the Temple. He was sidelined again! But Jesus found him. When the man realized exactly who stood before him, he cried, "Lord, I believe!" (John 9:38) and fell down to worship.
This is the ultimate purpose of being sent. God doesn't open our eyes so we can discover what He calls us to do. He opens them so we can see Jesus. Our highest purpose is never the work we do but to worship Him.
An Invitation to See Him as the Sent One
Jesus is still seeking out the thirsty, the hidden, and those who cannot see. First, He invites us to see Him as the Sent One. Then, we see ourselves in relation to Him. John's Gospel emphasizes this. Phrases like "the Father who sent Me" (John 6:44), "Him who sent Me" (John 5:24), and "He who sent Me" (John 7:28) echo throughout this Gospel.
For three years, the disciples watched Jesus preach, perform miracles, and do the works of the Kingdom. Again and again, He attributed those works to the Father who sent Him.
From the Pain of the Past to Purpose in the Present
Who was the blind man? He is nameless. And in some ways, he is you and me. When we awaken, our eyes open. We begin to see our life's journey with fresh eyes. We begin to recognize how God has called us, even through seasons that once felt confusing or painful. Then we realize we are not merely recovering from the pain of the past; God is revealing purpose in this present season.
Right now, God is awakening our identity and healing our sight. And with wonder, we will be able to look at our lives and declare, "Lord, You chose me" (see John 15:16, 1 Peter 2:9, and Isaiah 6:8).
Opposition to Your Identity and Calling
Disapproval. Denial. Delays. Sometimes, we feel more sidelined than sent. The enemy whispers his oldest question, "Did God really say?"
Finally, we realize what the enemy was attempting to steal. But these events are not evidence that God has forgotten you. They are further proof that you are a sent one, for God has made you in His image. Even the anointing of the Holy Spirit in Isaiah 61 is connected to being sent: "He has sent Me." (Photo via Pixabay)
What Jesus Says About You
It is not how you feel or where you are. Neither is it a role or stage of life. It's all about what Jesus says about you.
"So, Jesus said to them again, 'Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.'" (John 20:21 NKJV)
These days, you can send a message or email, change your mind, and unsend it at the click of a button! God has not "unsent" you. Your purpose has not expired! As the awakening comes, you realize you are not waiting to be sent. You are not just watching others being sent. Your time of being sent is not over. You are sent NOW. Now is the time for God's power to be seen in you.
Sometimes, we limit being sent to a specific opportunity. But being sent is not a role or platform. It is your identity. You have not been overlooked by God, nor have you missed your moment. And you are not sidelined.
We can declare:
• I am not overlooked, lost, or displaced.
• I am chosen by Jesus, brought near to Him, and sent by Him.
• This is my identity, and no circumstance can steal it away.
God Both Sends and Accompanies You
Unlike the blind man (who had to walk to the pool of Siloam alone), we do not go by ourselves. We are not only sent but accompanied and empowered by the Holy Spirit (John 14:16–17)! God brings us into a family to go on a journey of faith and discipleship.
"Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach." (Mark 3:14 NKJV)
We are not commissioned merely as workers but as beloved children who walk with Him, alongside Him (John 17:18). You can walk with God in the confidence of His favor, because the One who calls you "sent" accompanies you with joy.
