The Lord spoke to my spirit that He's extending a divine invitation to reverse realities and to reset to His divine order. In this season the transition between the realities being reversed and being reset to His divine order has felt like a ride down a bumpy road!
Sync to His Plans and Timing
Heavenly Father's view of time and ours are different. Certain outcomes take longer than we anticipate—think Abraham and Sarah and their promised son. Others take less time. Heavenly Father never intended Israel to take a forty-year-wilderness wander... In other words, sometimes Father's processes take longer, and sometimes we are the cause for the delay. Let us sync to His plans and timing. (Even so, yes, Lord.)
A Tale of Two Kings
How do we steward realities that He has changed and divinely reset? The Lord highlighted Saul to me. Saul had more physically going for him than David did. Kish, Saul's dad, stood respected as a leader in his tribe, "a mighty man of power" (see 1 Samuel 9:1). Saul himself is described as tall and handsome; in fact, he stood "head and shoulders" above the populace, literally (1 Samuel 9:2, 10:23).
Spiritually, Heavenly Father handed him the kingship on a golden platter. He arranged the details for Saul to have a private meeting with the apostle-prophet of the nation, Samuel. He gave Samuel a prophetic word, prophetic signs for Saul (which included the spirit of prophecy coming upon Saul so that he prophesied too), and had Samuel anoint him, then publicly confirm him—twice (1 Samuel 9–11).
Before Jesus came and gave us access to a "new heart" through His great suffering and finished work, Heavenly Father gave Saul another heart, which was new to him.
"So it was, when he [Saul] had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God gave him another heart; and all those signs came to pass that day" (1 Samuel 10:9 NKJV, brackets mine).
Heavenly Father's mission focused on restoring the honor of Benjamin as a tribe, and to that end, He chose Saul and poured extra grace into him, for He knew the generational terror Saul inherited. In fact, Heavenly Father invested more outwardly to help Saul accept the kingship and be established in it than He gave David. You know the rest of the story. Saul defaulted the kingship due to disobedience, living the rest of his days in fear and jealousy. That was not Father's intent. (Photo via Picryl)
David, a man after God's own heart, consistently chose the path of humility and repentance and worship—and his consistent response to Heavenly Father changed everything for him for the generations.
How It Should Have Ended and Can End for Us
Here are the steps we must take when Father changes our reality and resets us, as He did Saul:
1. Accept and agree.
2. Reset from auto pilot (our default programming).
3. Embrace a growth mindset.
4. Lean into the new heart (His gift, but our choice whether we grow or not).
5. Pause (listen for His direction).
6. Realign (change directions, as led).
7. Move (take right action).
Pause and seek the Lord's direction like David, instead of going on auto pilot like Saul, who leaned into the fear of man and didn't follow through on the Lord's instructions.
After the pause comes realignment. That's where we recognize what direction to go or whether we should speak or not. Then we are ready to take the right next step in the growth mindset, rather than revert to our default programming like Saul did, even after Heavenly Father had given him another heart. In that mix is the realization that auto pilot/default programming won't work in this new place.
A growth mindset, like that of a child, is crucial. Like Joshua, when he told the people as they prepared to cross the Jordan, "Stay close and pay attention (to the Ark, to the priests), because you have not been this way before" (see Joshua 3:3–3:4).
Prayer Response
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your great intentionality in reversing realities and resetting my life and family to Your divine order. I want to steward the new with You well. I choose to agree with what You are doing in my life and family. I choose a growth mindset over my default programming. Holy Spirit, remind me in the moment to pause, realign, and take the action You are leading me to, as David did, that I may steward and establish the new inner life You are directing. Restore and do much more in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
