A New Assignment Is Beginning
"Moses My servant is dead. Now then, you..." (Joshua 1:2 NIV)
There are pivotal moments when God clearly announces a change of season. This is one of them. God is declaring, "The old chapter has closed. A faithful era has come to an end. And now, a new assignment is beginning."
God Is Calling a New Generation of Leaders
God is calling a new generation of leaders to step up to take hold of the mantle and authority He is placing before them. We often speak about the changing of the guard through the story of Saul and David. Saul represents a leader who did not finish well. He began with promise but ended in insecurity, control, jealousy, and compromise.
We have watched that pattern repeated. We have seen leaders who could not release what God had removed His hand from, who clung to position when the anointing had lifted, and who tried to preserve their platform instead of preparing the next generation. But there is another changing of the guard taking place–not Saul to David, but Moses to Joshua.
Moses was not a failed leader. He wasn't rejected like Saul. He was faithful in carrying the burden of the people for forty years. He endured criticism, rebellion, pressure, loneliness, and disappointment. Moses finished his assignment. Yet, there still came a moment when the LORD said, "Moses My servant is dead." In other words, that era is over. The grace has lifted. That chapter is complete. Moses' leadership model was necessary for the wilderness, but it couldn't take the people into the promise. "Now Then, YOU..."
I believe we are in such a moment. God is calling a new generation of leaders to rise, not to dishonor the previous generation, push them aside, or to usurp authority; not to build on arrogance, selfish ambition, or rebellion, but to be ready when the Lord Himself repositions, releases, or removes those who have carried responsibility before you.
There are mantles being transferred, assignments being handed over, roles opening up, positions being vacated, responsibilities that can no longer be avoided. And the Lord would say, "Now then, YOU..." You have served in your current role for long enough. You understand the cost and burden of leadership. You can now carry the weight of responsibility. You have been formed in the secret place, prepared in obscurity, and refined in the wilderness. You have been hidden, but now it is time to step up."
Stop waiting for permission from people when God has already spoken. Stop looking to those above you for direction when the Lord is calling you to hear His voice directly. Stop always seeking more clarity when what you need is courage. Stop rehearsing your failures and inadequacy and start obediently walking in His sufficiency.
Moses is dead. Honor him. Give thanks for him. Learn from him. Celebrate what God did through him, but do not try to resuscitate him. Do not try to rebuild an old era. Do not try to recreate a past season.
The wilderness season required one kind of leadership. The Promised Land requires another. Moses led the people through survival. Joshua led them into possession. Moses led them through manna. The next season will require Joshua-type leaders—leaders with courage and conviction, leaders who are willing to cross over before everything feels safe, leaders who understand that inheritance is not just received; it is occupied. This is not a season for passive leadership or delayed obedience. Stop waiting at the edge of the Jordan, discussing the promise, while refusing to cross. This is a time to move, lead, take responsibility, and advance.
Rise: It's Time to Step Up!
The Joshua generation must carry a different spirit—a higher level of obedience, an unwillingness to compromise, a pioneer mindset, a vision for taking territory, a readiness for battle.
The promise will not be entered casually. The land must be possessed. So, the Lord would say to you, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Don't be discouraged. No more shrinking back. Stop looking for Moses when I am speaking to you.
"Now then, YOU step up. Lead His people. Carry the mantle. Take the territory. Occupy the promise. It's your turn. RISE. IT'S TIME TO STEP UP."
