How Did We Walk Through Famine?
I heard the Lord is say, "My people are entering a season of plenty."
When I heard the word "plenty," I immediately sensed it implied that many have been walking through a season of famine—not only experiencing natural lack, but also spiritual weariness, disappointment, delayed promises, and long seasons of waiting.
The question is never simply "Did we go through a famine?" The greater question is "How did we walk through it?" Did we continue to trust God? Did we keep sowing in faith? Isaac sowed during famine and reaped a hundredfold because the Lord blessed him.
"Now there was a famine in the land—besides the previous famine in Abraham's time—and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar. The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, 'Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham. I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because Abraham obeyed Me and did everything I required of him, keeping My commands, My decrees and My instructions.'
"So Isaac stayed in Gerar... Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him." (Genesis 26:1–6, 12 NIV)
The Promise Is More Than Material Provision
God works according to His appointed times, set times, and the fullness of time. In Scripture, the Hebrew word for this is moed—His divinely appointed seasons (Strong's H4150). Moed is much richer than simply meaning "time." It refers to a divinely appointed time or meeting established by God.
We often receive a promise long before we see its fulfillment. Habakkuk reminds us, "For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay" (Habakkuk 2:3 NIV). (Photo via Unsplash)
I believe many are stepping into one of those appointed times.
The Lord then drew my attention to Joel 2: "You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will My people be shamed" (Joel 2:26 NIV).
This promise is about far more than material provision. God's greatest restoration is not simply what fills our hands; it is what fills our hearts. He restores relationship, hope, His presence, and His people.
The Presence of God Among Us
Notice the progression in Joel 2: it starts with repentance and ends with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The climax is not abundance; it is the promise: "I will pour out My Spirit on all people" (Joel 2:28 NIV).
I believe we are entering a season where God is restoring what has been lost, healing disappointment, renewing hope, and preparing His Church for a fresh outpouring of His Spirit.
The greatest sign of plenty is not full barns; it is the presence of God among His people.
If you have walked through a long season of delay, don't lose heart. The God who appoints the seasons is faithful. The years the locusts have eaten are not beyond His power to restore.
May we enter this season with expectant hearts, trusting that the Lord is bringing restoration, refreshing, and a greater revelation of His presence.
