The Gas Gauge Is Full
Earlier this month, as my husband and I were driving home from a weekend getaway, I glanced at the gas gauge. It is something I rarely pay attention to, because my husband is very good at making sure the tank is always full. As I looked at it, I heard the Holy Spirit say, "You are entering a season in which you will not have to worry about your storehouses being depleted."
"The threshing floors shall be full of grain; the vats shall overflow with wine and oil." (Joel 2:24 ESV)
"The Lord will command the blessing on you in your barns and in all that you undertake." (Deuteronomy 28:8 ESV)
Immediately, I went into an open vision, and I saw what looked like a cross between a cistern and a wine barrel. Each one had a gauge, and every single gauge pointed to "F." There was no half-full mark and no "E" for empty, only full. Written on the vessels were the following words: "Anointing," "Spiritual Health," "Physical Health," "Mental Health," "Emotional Health," "Wisdom," "Peace," "Finances," "Opportunities," and "Favor."
"See if I will not open the windows of Heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing." (Malachi 3:10 NRSV)
In the following days, I asked God for more insight on the word and the vision He gave me, and He told me to look at the meaning of the letter "F." In Hebrew, the sound for "f" is represented by the letter "pey," with a pictograph of the mouth. Pey is associated with speech, declaration, breath, and the expression of what is within. Scripture tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue, and that our mouths are to come into agreement with God's Word.
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue." (Proverbs 18:21 NKJV)
Pey also carries the numerical value of eighty—a number often associated with spiritual maturity and new assignments. Moses was eighty years old when God called him to lead Israel out of Egypt.
This is what He was saying: As we align our hearts, our words, and our lives with God's will, His ways, His blueprints, and His assignments, He fills every area of our lives. Our declarations become an expression of our agreement with Heaven, and our "tanks" remain full because we continue to cooperate with Him.
Faith Will Fill Your Vats
Then the Lord said, "As long as you keep speaking My Word over your life, as long as you keep using the most powerful weapon I have given you—your mouth—to declare and decree what I am speaking over you in this season, your storehouses will remain full. Keep obeying. Keep sitting at My feet. Keep sanctifying yourself. Keep believing regardless of what your circumstances are saying, and your faith will fill your vats." (Photo via Pexels)
"You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you." (Job 22:28 NKJV)
The Lord said, "As the honey flows from Heaven, as you prepare your vessels for the overflow, as the destiny scrolls are placed into your hands, and as you begin walking in the new mandates and assignments I have prepared for you, I will fill every dry and barren place in your life. You have toiled much. You have given much. You have yielded to the crushing. Now it is time to reap your harvest."
"I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." (Isaiah 43:19 ESV)
"You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows." (Psalm 23:5 ESV)
You Have Graduated from "The School of the Wilderness"
The Lord continued, "There is a time and season for everything, and this is your season of more than enough—a season of rest and restoration after years of pain, trauma, lack, and injustice. I am pouring out My special reserve wine, a wine mixed with your tears. Those tears have made it rich, anointed, powerful, and vibrant. It carries your DNA and therefore can only be poured out in and through you. This is your graduation season. You have fulfilled the requirements of 'The School of the Wilderness.'"
I knew exactly what He meant by "The School of the Wilderness," and I know many of you do as well. It's God's training ground. It's the ultimate boot camp from which not many graduate. It is where He dismantles everything that cannot accompany us into our calling—self-reliance, false identities, pride, fear, survival mechanisms, and worldly ways of thinking—until Christ is fully formed within us.
"... until Christ is formed in you." (Galatians 4:19 NKJV)
It is where our character is refined more deeply than our gifts are developed, and where faith is forged in the fire. It is where surrender becomes our strength, obedience our only response, and intimacy with God the very oxygen we breathe. It is where we lose the version of ourselves that has been shaped by this world so we can become who God created us to be.
"And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory." (2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV)
Something New Is Emerging
Just as a caterpillar enters the dark, confined isolation of the chrysalis, where it completely liquefies before emerging as something entirely new, so it is with us in the wilderness. The old nature is broken down so God can recreate us into the image of Christ. We emerge as new creations, no longer confined to the ground and the dust, no longer bound by who we once were, but we're able to soar to new heights, carry His glory, pollinate the lives of others with the fragrance of Christ, and multiply the anointing He has entrusted to us. The wilderness is the Believer's chrysalis. It is where death gives way to resurrection, transformation takes place, and God prepares us to fly in ways we never imagined possible. It is the only school where you enroll as yourself, but you never truly graduate until your earthly life is over. Every wilderness season removes another layer of self and reveals more of Jesus. Every trial is another lesson. Every act of obedience prepares you to carry a greater measure of His glory.
That is where this overflow comes from. It is the fruit of years spent in the wilderness. Every hidden sacrifice, every unanswered prayer, every crushing, every disappointment, every betrayal, every delay, every tear collected by the Father has been preparing you to carry what He is now entrusting to you.
Graduation Is the Beginning of a Greater Level of Stewardship
Graduation is not the end of the journey; it is the beginning of a greater level of stewardship. A doctor spends years studying before earning the privilege of practicing medicine. A lawyer labors through years of training before being entrusted with the authority to represent others. Yet both can lose that privilege if they violate the oath attached to their profession. Their knowledge may remain, but their authority to practice can be taken away.
The Kingdom is no different. Influence, favor, authority, anointing, and the assignments God entrusts to us are never just for us; they are sacred gifts to steward for others and His Kingdom. The same humility that carried you through the wilderness must carry you through your harvest. The same obedience that filled your vessels is the obedience that will keep them full.
"If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land." (Isaiah 1:19 ESV)
Protect what God has entrusted to you. Guard your heart. Keep your mouth in agreement with Heaven. Keep following His voice. Keep low to the ground. Keep yourself accountable. Because the greatest tragedy is to spend years in "The School of the Wilderness," only to squander the very thing you were prepared to carry.
"Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine." (Proverbs 3:9–10 NIV)
