Divine Positioning Is a Journey
Divine positioning is something many of us long for, especially when life feels uncertain. You may wonder if you're in the right place, at the right time. And I believe God is breathing fresh life into this desire, not as something afar off but as a reality you can awaken to.
Wherever you are right now, this promise is for you: "He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name" (Psalm 23:3 NLT).
You often think of divine positioning as something fixed, such as a location, a season, a role, a team, or a ministry. But being divinely positioned is also a journey. Sometimes, it won't make sense. Yet this is the truth: The Kingdom of God is present in your here and now.
He's Here, Even Here
Recently, I found myself in a storm, with turmoil and family pressures. We have a health situation in our family, and I've been challenged as we navigate the medical side and aged care support in Australia. Perhaps you've had moments like that recently, too?
In the middle of the night, I had an encounter with God, where He spoke to me from a past moment. Suddenly, it was present—a vivid message from Heaven! As I remembered it the following day, the realization came: He's here, even here. In that moment, anxiety turned into awe, and awe into worship. He promises: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you..." (Isaiah 43:2 NKJV).
My confidence returned. And it wasn't because anything had changed around me. Instead, my awareness changed within me. And perhaps this is true for you right now: "Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, 'Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn't even aware of it!'" (Genesis 28:16 NLT). (Photo via Unsplash)
3 Keys to Divine Positioning When the Journey Feels Uncertain
1. Ask the Right Question
"Jesus said to His disciples, 'Let's cross to the other side of the lake'" (Mark 4:35 NLT). The disciples were following Jesus' instructions. They were in the will of God. But then, along the way, a violent, life-threatening storm arose. Meanwhile, Jesus was at peace, asleep in the boat!
Sometimes, you find yourself in a storm. The horizon is tilting. And it's tempting to ask, "Am I heading in the right direction? Did God really direct me?" Or even, "Am I in the right boat?"
"The disciples woke Him up, shouting, 'Teacher, don't You care that we're going to drown?'" (Mark 4:38 NLT)
In those moments, they probably felt abandoned, and they questioned Jesus' commitment to them! But it was their own faith they had lost hold of (see Mark 4:35–41). Instead of asking, "Am I in the right place?" when the journey gets rough, what if this is the better question, "Is Jesus with me in this place?" Because "divine positioning" is more than being in the right place. It's the positioning of God Himself here with us (see Acts 17:26–28).
2. Recognize His Presence in This Place
Divine positioning is not about having clarity. Sometimes, it is about opening your eyes and noticing Jesus is present with you. I was reminded of a vision I had some time ago. I saw Jesus standing beside a map that was spread out on a table. It was like a dynamic, interactive navigation system.
In our earthly perspectives, sudden turns of events take us on unexpected pathways. Sometimes, we've been knocked off track! But He knows the whole in advance, because He occupies eternity. What impacted me most was the refreshment station I saw down a winding track. And I knew it was placed ahead of us in advance. (Photo via Unsplash)
It touched me that even though we didn't expect the path we were on, God had already made provision for this place. He knew in advance that we would be here.
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil;
my cup runs over." (Psalm 23:5 NKJV)
As I reflect on that now, considering my personal storm and the encounter, the realization I have is this: He's here, even here. The Holy Spirit awakens your faith. Jesus is Savior, Provider, and Redeemer. He wastes nothing. Even what feels like a wrong turn is not outside His ability to lead, restore, and provide.
3. Let Him Reorient You
Scripture reminds you that God transforms the Valley of Trouble into a gateway of hope (see Hosea 2:15). What looks like trouble can become a doorway, a pivot point. So, if you are in a place right now where things feel unclear, and you're asking, "Did I miss it?" or "Am I in the wrong place?" be encouraged. You are divinely positioned, not because everything feels clear but because He is with you.
"My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." (Exodus 33:14 NKJV)
Let the gift of faith within you rise. When it is dark, and you are unsure of the way, you can look up. I'm reminded of ancient mariners, who looked to the stars to navigate. God's Word, God's nature, His past faithfulness, and His promises are your fixed points. So when life is unclear, lift your gaze and let Him reorient you.
You Haven't Missed It
Divine positioning is more than being in the place you believe you should be. It is recognizing that Jesus is with you, right here, on the journey. And because He is with you, you are not lost. You don't need to fear being outside of His will or running late. You can turn to Him, because God is here with you, even here.
You are stepping into a place He is already occupying.
