Ten Things Emerging Prophetic Voices Need to Prepare For
1. Prepare to Not Compare Yourself to Others
Your gift and anointing will grow over time. It may even surpass those you once looked up to in ministry.
2. Prepare for Your Family's Response!
Your family may think you're losing it when you start making decisions led by the Spirit. These decisions may seem irrational or illogical to them, but you will have to bear the burden of obedience. Better to obey God than man! In His own time, God will provide PROOF of His work in your life.
3. Prepare Your Heart for Rejection
Some people and places will avoid you once they realize you can "SEE" and "HEAR." My wife always laughs, because many times we've run into someone (even church leaders), and when they see me, they become super nervous, stuttering, fumbling around, or (in some cases) they drop their items and leave the store!
At first, I thought, "Oh, they don't like me." But actually, it may have been the fear of the Lord at work, or the person may have been in hiding. Don't personalize rejection, as it could be for your protection as well.
4. Prepare to Wait
Sometimes a revelation will come that you have little or no understanding of. The full understanding of a revelation may take weeks, months, or even YEARS to come forth. God gave me the final revelation about a dream I had when I was seven just three years ago!
5. Prepare for Correction!
You may be anointed and prophetic, but there is always room for growth and correction. More senior leaders and prophetic voices may disagree with or challenge your revelation (especially if you're new or not yet ordained into a five-fold office). Don't take offense; allow room to learn and grow.
6. Prepare for Humility
The enemy will try to tempt you with pride over your newfound revelation and gifting. Don't fall into this trap. (Photo via Freerange Stock)
7. Prepare to Be Shocked
You will SEE and DISCERN things about others that will turn your stomach and cause your jaw to drop. At first, it can be disheartening when God shows you secret things in the lives of others, especially wickedness or sin. Over time, though, you'll learn to separate your emotions from the revelation and respond according to the Spirit. PRAY before you "SAY"!
8. Be Prepared to Miss It!
Don't plan to miss it, but understand that it will most likely happen at some point. We are all human, and even the best prophetic voices have missed it at times. That doesn't mean you didn't hear or see SOMETHING. Prophetic ministry has many layers, and as you grow, your "misses" will become fewer and further apart.
9. Be Prepared to Have Patience
God may show you things that will come to pass in your life or the lives of others. Often, it can seem so real that you think it will happen tomorrow. However, some revelations take years or even decades to come to fruition. If God showed it to you and confirmed it, stay the course... IT WILL HAPPEN! Serve and trust Him until it does. Prophetic ministry is not about the short game but the long game.
10. Be Prepared for Your Gift to Work for Others but Often Not for Yourself
As a prophetic voice, you may be able to prophesy, and things happen instantly for others. You may hear direction and be able to pray easily for others. However, when you ask God for clarity or answers for your own life, you may hear NOTHING! This can discourage many prophetic vessels.
Please realize that your gift is for OTHERS. As for you, you will need to go through the same process as everyone else: patience, testing, obedience, etc., to receive from God!
