Sensitivity or a Prophetic Call?
I felt to write this to you, especially if you have ever walked into a room and been overwhelmed by the "atmosphere," found yourself crying for reasons you can't explain, felt everything so deeply it almost hurts, or have been told you're "just too sensitive."
Can I share something with you? That sensitivity isn't a flaw; you are probably carrying a prophetic call on your life. You're not feeling too much. You are probably feeling what Heaven wants you to discern.
I remember the day this revelation changed everything for me. I remember as a child being overwhelmed by emotions that didn't seem to be mine in certain situations, asking God why I couldn't just be "normal" like everyone else.
His response was gentle but clear: "I made you sensitive to the spirit realm for a reason."
What the world labels as being "too sensitive" is actually often a prophetic call in its raw form. Those overwhelming feelings are often a spiritual discernment waiting to be stewarded. Most people don't do this and are left with feelings that overwhelm and frustrate them.
Practical Keys for Navigating Discernment
Here are some practical keys I've learned for navigating this gift that might help:
1. Reframe Your Sensitivity
Instead of saying "I'm too sensitive," try "I'm spiritually discerning"; "I'm attuned to Heaven's voice"; "I'm carrying prophetic insight."
2. Create Boundaries
• Set aside daily quiet time to process; make time to be alone with God.
• Learn to distinguish between your emotions and what you're picking up. When you are not mature in this gift, it's hard to know the difference.
• Practice "holy pause" moments when the feelings intensify. Take a breath and a pause.
• Remember, you can feel it without carrying it. Jesus is the burden bearer; give it to Him. (Photo via Pixabay)
3. Understand Your Design
David felt God's heart so deeply, he wrote psalms that were honest and raw. Daniel was so sensitive to the spirit realm, he had visions. John loved Jesus so deeply, he laid his head on Jesus' chest. They weren't "too much"; they were prophetically gifted.
4. Practical Care for Prophetic Hearts
When the feelings overwhelm, remember that worship shifts the atmosphere, Scripture grounds the spirit, nature often brings clarity, journaling helps to process revelation, and community provides context (this one is so important!).
Jesus Himself Was Deeply Moved
Remember, Jesus Himself was deeply moved by what He discerned. He felt compassion, He wept, and He sensed purpose in others. Your sensitivity connects you to His heart.
I want to encourage you to grow and mature in this beautiful gift from the Lord. When operating in the right way, it's powerful in building His Church!
A Prayer for You: Father, I thank You for Your child who is reading this right now. Thank You that their sensitivity is not a mistake but a masterpiece of Your design. Help them see their gift through Your eyes. Show them how to steward this sensitivity with wisdom. Surround them with those who understand and validate their gift. In Jesus' name, amen.
Know this: You're not broken. You're not "too much." You're beautifully designed to carry Heaven's heart in ways this world desperately needs.
For Scriptures to meditate on, you can study 2 Timothy 1:7, Romans 12:6, Matthew 11:28, Romans 15:13, and Ephesians 2:10.
