A New Season and New Year
As we cross over into a new season, we approach the time of the new Hebrew year of 5785. Yes, it is the beginning of fall, but more importantly we are entering into the time of the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah, and eventually Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. As I have pondered this seasonal word of exhortation, I thought it would be good to review the power of the Blood.
Sprinkling the Blood Seven Times
Our theme verses derive from Leviticus 16:18–19, where it states, "Then he shall go out to the altar that is before the Lord and make atonement for it; he shall take some of the blood from the bull and some of the blood from the goat, and put it on the horns of the altar on all sides. With his finger he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it seven times and cleanse it, and consecrate it from the impurities of the sons of Israel."
Notice where it talks about sprinkling the blood seven times!
These verses are very powerful and are often overlooked in our teaching and revelatory perspectives. But let's build a bridge from the Old Testament to the New Testament to gain understanding on this.
Seven Ways Christ's Blood Was Shed
• Jesus sweat drops of blood. Luke 22:44 records, "And being in agony, He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground."
• Jesus bled as He was struck with fists. Matthew 26:67 records when Jesus was questioned by Jewish leaders and their volatile response. "Then they spit in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him." (Also see Micah 5:1.)
• Blood spilled when Jesus' beard was ripped off His face. Isaiah 50:6 foretold, "I offered My back to those who beat Me, My cheeks to those who pulled out My beard; I did not hide My face from mocking and spitting."
• Blood flowed from the flogging of Jesus' back. Matthew 27:26 records, "...after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified." (For a vivid, raw depiction, see Psalm 129:1–3.) (Photo via Pixy.org)
• Blood streamed down Jesus' face and body from the crown of thorns pressed into His head. Matthew 27:29 says, "And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!'"
• Blood dripped from Jesus' crucified hands and feet. As recorded in Matthew 27:35, "...they crucified Him, and parted His garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet..."
• Blood flowed out of Jesus' side when He was pierced. John 19:34 describes, "...one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water."
Seven Benefits of the Blood of Jesus
Seven sprinklings by the high priest and seven ways blood was shed by the Messiah bring us seven specific benefits of spilled blood revealed in Scripture. According to Revelation 12:11, we overcome the evil one by testifying what the blood of Jesus has done for us. Let me simply list these out for you:
• Forgiveness (Hebrews 9:22)
• Cleansing (1 John 1:7)
• Redemption (Ephesians 1:7)
• Justification (Romans 5:9)
• Sanctification (Hebrews 10:10)
• Peace (Colossians 1:20)
• Access (Hebrews 10:19)
The blood of Jesus is powerful. Darkness stops and life begins when you testify what the blood of Jesus has accomplished. Remember, you are forgiven, cleansed, redeemed, justified, sanctified, peaceful, and have access by His blood. Learn to apply His blood as we go into this new fall season of 5785.
