A Long-Awaited Treasure
I once read an article about the effects of Hurricane Matthew. While reading, I came across another interesting article. The title was something like Treasures Found. As I continued to read, it said a man had found a huge shark tooth that washed up during this horrible storm, a treasure he had searched for all his life.
As I read the article, God said to me, "Some treasures are only unearthed during the most violent storms." I hid this statement in my heart for a few weeks, knowing God was going to show me more.
What Came after the First Storm?
One weekend I was talking with a friend who had just come through a very difficult time fighting a disease in her body. Amid our conversation, she said, "This has been the worst battle of my life." She went on to say, "Twenty-three years ago I went through a hard battle, one I thought was the most difficult one of my life, and it was... until now." Suddenly that phrase concerning Hurricane Matthew came to my mind.
I said to her, "What came AFTER that first storm?"
She thought for a moment, then responded, "Well, before the storm I worked for a factory. Then, I was bedridden for four and a half years. After I got out of bed, something had changed in me, and I went back to college and got my degree in accounting."
Aha! I shared with her what the Lord had said to me, to which she replied, "Yes! God unearthed a gift of an accountant in me after that storm!"
Then I asked, "How long did that gift sustain you?"
She said, "Up until now." To which I replied, "Okay, so you have just gone through another storm, one greater than the last; can you just imagine what God will unearth in you during this storm? And can you imagine how long the treasure He will unearth in you will sustain you this time?" (Photo via Unsplash)
Treasures Unearthed by Violent Storms
Now, let's look back at what God said: Some treasures are only unearthed by violent storms.
In ancient times, it was customary for men to hide their treasures in the earth. When they needed them, or wanted them, they had to dig them up. However, when great storms came across their land, it would often unearth their treasures, revealing and exposing them for all to see.
2 Corinthians 4:6–10 says, "For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed – always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body."
Do you realize that you have treasures inside of you? Do you realize there are treasures and gifts within you that may only be unearthed during storms?
I think about Kenneth Hagin, who was bedridden and not expected to live past fifteen years of age. Now that was a violent storm he faced. Yet during his storm, God unearthed a gift of healing within him that has blessed millions and continues to bless many. His legacy lives on today.
There is person after person who has gone through great storms and come out with even greater treasures. They have come out with a greater anointing. They have come out literally carrying the presence and power of God. I believe you can be one of those as well; I believe I can be one of those. (Photo via Pixabay)
The Glory Revealed in Us
Romans 8:18 says, "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."
What you are going through right now can't even compare to what God is going to do in you and through you!
I don't know what kind of storm you are facing today. Perhaps it feels like a hurricane. But this I do know: God can and will unearth treasures within you during this storm.
For the man in the article, it took strong winds, high waves, and destructive forces to unearth the treasure he had searched for his entire life. His treasure was hidden deep, and it took a massive storm to reveal it.
Your treasure is hidden deep within you as well; it may take strong winds, high waves, and seemingly destructive forces to unearth it.
For some people, their faith is washed away by storms. Some are destroyed by storms. And then there is the remnant – the people who hold tight to the anchor of their soul during the storm, ride it out, and gather the treasures unearthed, the treasures left behind after the storm. Lord Jesus, may I be one of those. There are some faith-full people who face the storm, walk through it, and allow the Anchor of their soul to unearth HIS great treasures within them. May I also be one of those.
God said, "Some treasures are only unearthed during the most violent storms." What treasures are being unearthed in you today?
