Kathi Pelton: "A Season to Glean from His Field and Rest at His Feet"

Breaking off the Spirit of "Widowhood"

As I spent time worshiping the Lord the other day, I went into a beautiful visionary encounter. In this encounter, I saw Ruth walking toward where Boaz lie, sleeping among the grain. I saw her uncover his feet and lie down there. Then the whole story of Boaz redeeming Ruth played out before my eyes. When it had finished, I heard these words:

"Tell My people that I am breaking 'widowhood' off of them. Just come and lie at My feet in rest and quiet, in intimacy and trust. All that is in My hands and in My possession will be yours, but only concern yourself with the place at My feet. Then all else will be added to you."

Often I see people take on the identity of a spiritual widow by believing that only the leftovers are for them. And though there may be seasons (like the one Ruth found herself in) when according to our natural eyes this condition appears to be true, those are the times when we humbly glean in the field of our God, finding favor and provision as His eyes look upon us. But that is different than a "spirit of widowhood" which causes people to believe they have been abandoned and left to beg. This is what the Lord is breaking off of many.

You are not to seek His hand as if you are a beggar looking for a "hand out," but you are desired and favored of the Lord, and can lie at the feet of your Redeemer and watch what He does for you.

Don't Seek My Hand, Seek My Face

I kept hearing in my spirit, "Don't seek My hand, seek My face."

"You have said, 'Seek My face.' My heart says to You, 'Your face, Lord, do I seek.'" (Psalms 27:8)

Seeking God's face is about relationship, intimacy, and oneness. Seeking His hand is about desiring His might, power, and provision. (Photo via Pexels)

In the vision of Ruth and Boaz, I understood that Ruth's posture of lying quietly at Boaz's feet was akin to seeking his face. She didn't just go after any young man in the city, but she recognized the honor and integrity of her true kinsman redeemer, so she humbled herself in an act of trust and respect at his feet. Boaz then redeemed her for himself, and all the wealth, honor, and love that he had became hers, and her mother-in-law's as well. Ruth had sought his face by lying at his feet, and by doing so, all else was added to her. What was in his hand became hers as well.

Boaz's wealth was not the motive of Ruth's heart, for she was grateful for the favor and protection he had given her as she gleaned in his fields. He had taken notice of this.

Glean from His Field and Rest at His Feet

I feel as though the Lord is speaking two things: First, if you are in a season of gleaning in the field (behind the harvesters), be sure to do it unto the Lord with a grateful heart, and be sure to work in the field where you receive favor and protection. Second, the Lord is calling His people to seek His face and not His hand. Lie at His feet in a posture of trust and stillness, knowing that HE IS GOD. He will redeem you, and you will not only experience the beauty of intimacy with Him, but all that is within His hand will belong to you.

His redemption is not a "hand out"; it is a covering, because you are desired and favored of the Lord.
