Afghanistan: "A crisis of hunger and starvation"

Dear Elijah List Friend,
In December, the United Nations warned that hunger in Afghanistan had reached "truly unprecedented levels." As winter approached, the U.N. Refugee Agency insisted that "widespread starvation" is threatening millions of Afghani men, women, and children.
After the brutal Taliban regime returned to power in August, the United Nations Children's Fund estimated that 97% of the country would be below the poverty line by the middle of this year. RUN Ministries teams on the ground in Afghanistan tell us this humanitarian catastrophe gets worse by the day.
The U.N. says almost 23 million people, 55% of Afghanistan's population, "are facing extreme levels of hunger – nearly nine million of whom are at risk of famine." Orphans, single mothers, the elderly, and the disabled are the "most vulnerable" in this "crisis of hunger and starvation."
| Thankfully, God has uniquely positioned RUN Ministries to help Afghani families fighting to survive. Our frontline teams are doing all they can to care for and protect thousands of displaced men, women, and children. But RUN wants to do much more — and we can with your financial and prayer support! Click here to help. |
With the proper financial resources, our teams have the ability to provide food, clothes, blankets, and other humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. Your tax-deductible gift of just $25 can feed a family of four for one week. A contribution of $50 can help two families, while $100 can bless a single mother and her three children for an entire month.
No amount is too small to make a difference. In addition to feeding, clothing, and protecting Afghani men, women, and children, RUN teams will share the peace, hope, and love of Jesus Christ with them. Please click here to help with your tax-deductible donation of any amount.
Thank you, in advance, for your faithful prayers and generous financial support on behalf of the Afghani people.
Until all have heard,

Eric Watt
President, RUN Ministries
P.S. It's not only the children of Afghanistan who are desperate for food. Reportedly, more than half of the adults there are going hungry, too. One U.N. official describes the humanitarian crisis this way: "People don't have enough to eat, and it's very visible."
