"Now David was sitting between the two gates. And the watchman went up to the roof over the gate, to the wall, lifted his eyes and looked, and there was a man, running alone. Then the watchman cried out and told the king. And the king said, 'If he is alone, there is news in his mouth.' And he [the messenger] came rapidly and drew near." (2 Samuel 18:24-25 NKJV, emphasis added)
Those Who Neither Sleep Nor Slumber
I see the sun slowly setting, finding its final resting place for the evening. The people of God have all gone home, hidden safe within the walls with their families. The city gates are closed, so no one can enter the city. The sheep are in their barns; the shepherds are already lying down for a restful night's sleep. But there are those who neither sleep nor slumber—the watchmen, or as I like to call them, the watchers.
The watchers stand strong and mighty in their places on the wall. Their knees do not buckle; their wills do not bend. They are fixed and immovable. Their eyes pierce the darkness as they watch the gate for even the slightest variation in the wind, because they're able to discern the times. Carefully the watchers wait for a message to bring to the people of Zion.
The watchers' role is to discern, to warn, and to protect. Back in the early days, it was the watchers who cried out, warning of what they saw while standing high on the wall. They lifted up their voices. The word "watchman," translated in the Hebrew, is tsaphah, meaning "to lean forward," "to peer into the distance," "to observe," "to await." They became sentries or lookouts.
"Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from My mouth, you shall give them warning from Me." (Ezekiel 3:17)
Warnings from the Gates
Let the house of the Lord hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church in 2022. For He shall raise up watchmen in the last days. They will stand high on the wall and once again warn the people. They will blow the shofar and the ram's horn. They will stand on the wall and intercede day and night for the earth to be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. (Photo via Flickr)
These watchmen shall lift up their voices and sing together, preparing the way for the Lord and making straight in the desert the highway for our God. They will warn from the gates of their cities.
"On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest." (Isaiah 62:6)
No Longer 'Playing House'
I hear the watchers blowing the ram's horn, once again calling the people to godly sorrow and repentance. Now is not the time to 'play house' with God and waste precious time on foolish things. I see the mighty winds carrying the sound to the four corners of the earth, where the watchmen will warn the people regarding the crisis of truth in the land—of the little foxes that spoil the vine.
I also hear the sound of the shofar being carried throughout the earth, calling the people of God to declare victory through Christ, victory in families, victory over church drama, victory in finances and employment. I hear them blowing the shofar with all their might, declaring revival fire to burn throughout the earth. It will produce revival in the wasteland, revival in the valley of defeat and confusion. I see the spiritually dead rising to life again, their dead bones taking on muscle and skin (Ezekiel 37).
The watchmen not only see and hear the coming great habitation of His presence, but diligently pray until things happen in the atmosphere. They prepare hearts for His coming and make straight a highway for our God, never taking the focus off their beloved Lord to put the spotlight on themselves. They hide behind the Cross.
"A voice of one calling: 'In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.'" (Isaiah 40:3)
Come Out from Your Solitude, O Watchers
Some of the watchmen have been injured in the fight. After watching so many years, they have left their places on the wall and hidden away in solitude. They may have lost their voices during their season of hiddenness, but the Lord wants them to know they have become His voice. He wants to use them to be the voice crying in the wilderness, the voice of many waters pouring from the wall. God is going to use them as pure vessels to shout the truth in such a time as this.
I hear the Lord say that it's time to take your place on the wall, once again. The gates are swinging wide open so that the King of all glory can enter. Don't miss your opportunity to be part of His plan.
You may have lost ground in the past, but head back to the wall and take your place on top. Stand strong, dear one. It's time to blow your ram's horn once again and call the people back to God, for repentance will come and transform the earth. So blow your shofar and declare revival to move over the earth, consuming new territories that have never heard the Gospel before.
Ready to Take Your Place?
A new season is here and it's time to let Him restore and strengthen us so that we'll be ready to take our place on His wall of fire in these times. It's time to intercede day and night for the earth to be filled with the knowledge of His glory. Overcome adversities and faint not. Stay in your place on the wall and declare a cleansing, a shaking, and a purification that will enable the Church to soar again in power, might and miracles.
His watchers must lift their voices and intercede, day and night, for the earth to be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. Glory to God in the highest!
