Shalom from Israel,
In Matthew 1:21, God gave Mary's Son the name Yeshua because "He will 'save' His people from their sins." In translation, there is no connection between Jesus' name and Him saving people, but in Hebrew, this connection is very evident. The Hebrew word for, "He will save," is, "yoshia." This has the same Hebrew root as the name "Yeshua." However, most Israelis today call Him "Yeshu." Is this a distortion or just a variation of His Hebrew name? |
