Kiwanda is a strong prophetic voice. I have seen her come under the power of God and begin to prophesy, and as she did, atmospheres and lives began to shift. She is a woman of great faith and a powerful intercessor.
It is an honor to introduce her to the Elijah List family. I am sure you will be greatly encouraged by her words. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

"For if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, 'Abba! Father!'" (Romans 8:13-15)
Have you ever noticed that how we feel often determines how we live? If we want something, it is motivated by a feeling. When we express ourselves, it is driven by a feeling. How we respond to people is based on a feeling. We often let our feelings dictate our actions!
One day, I went through our home to pray over it, because I did not like what I was seeing and hearing. The atmosphere was charged with feelings of confusion which was leading to unhealthy arguments. At first, I was caught up in it, trying to manage the situation and feeling fear and anxiety when I thought of the discord. But Holy Spirit revealed to me I was not to react, instead I was to act by taking my authority in prayer. I began to intercede over our home and our family. Following the prayer, there was a notable shift in the atmosphere. The arguments were subdued, and our home environment was filled with more love, joy and peace!
We tend to live our lives based on our feelings. Are feelings bad? NO, but they need to be submitted to God because when we act out of our feelings, we may not be aligned with God's heart and His ways. Let's face it, we DO feel emotional atmospheres, and typically, when it is negative, we want to react with a quick word to defend ourselves, or make our point. It's OK to have feelings, but it is the words and actions that follow that indicate what source we are living from. Our quick word can perpetuate the problem, or secure the solution.
So what can you do to shift your feelings to a Holy Spirit directed response? STOP. Quiet yourself and ask Holy Spirit, "How do You want me to respond?" LISTEN. He has an answer for you. The good news is, you are not subject to your feelings when you are submitted to the Holy Spirit. Your feelings do not have to control everything you do and say.
The Message Bible says it this way, "The world is unprincipled. It's dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn't fight fair. But we don't live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren't for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing an entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, and tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God. We fit every loose thought, emotion, and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity." (2 Corinthians 10:4-6)
Six Principles for Living from the Spirit, Not from Feelings
1. Repent for giving into the feelings of the moment and for allowing feelings to control your actions. This is "...putting to death the deeds of the body" (Romans 8:13).
2. Ask Holy Spirit for His understanding, and His feelings. To hear His heart requires a position of abiding.
3. Press into Holy Spirit, not the feeling! Spend time in worship to clear thoughts from all that is attached to feelings, and replace it with His thoughts and His perspective.
4. Speak in tongues. "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words" (Romans 8:26).
5. Be obedient and respond according to what He shows you.
6. Speak the word of truth that He gives you into and over your situation. The truth cancels the lies.
With the Holy Spirit as your guide, what He is saying and doing is the gauge to your response in every situation. Your feelings will not rule you anymore as you take your authority and shift every atmosphere contrary to the Word of God, and bring it into love, joy, and peace!
"'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,' declares the Lord." (Isaiah 55:8)
"For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God." (Romans 8:14)
