Have you ever been close to completing something and then given up? I'm sure we all have at some point. Isn't it wonderful how even in our weakness, God gives us grace to press in for His breakthrough! Abraham's servant didn't give up and was rewarded for his perseverance and humility. He trusted God and fulfilled the task assigned to him. It sometimes costs to go the extra mile, but the effort is well worth it.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE

"'Drink, my lord' she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink. After she had given him a drink, she said, 'I'll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking.' So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels." Genesis 24:18-20

Unbidden, Rebekah went the extra mile, showing great generosity of heart. Not only did she draw water for the servant, she also drew water for all his camels. She saw a need and responded in grace, not withholding in greed or selfishness. She was quick to empty herself out for another. There was no apparent incentive or promised reward. Her motivation was pure. Our calling as New Testament believers is to live a life of love.

"Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us." Ephesians 5:1-2

When we reach out in selfless love, a little bit of heaven is released on earth as Christ's Kingdom comes with a demonstration of His compassion and power. The kindness of Christ is a mighty virtue which shatters the kingdom of darkness.

"Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the Lord had made his journey successful. When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold nose ring weighing a beka and two gold bracelets weighing ten shekels." Genesis 24:21-22

Rebekah was richly rewarded for her selfless act of humility. She wasn't looking for a reward, but it was given her nonetheless. The Lord is looking for our response today to those in need. He wants us to be His hands and feet, His eyes, ears, and voice to a hurting world. Heaven is watching and waiting with baited breath for our response. Our Father loves to pour out good gifts in abundance on His children. Abundance is a state of plenty. With God there is always enough. Abundance, either physically or spiritually, is often a sign of blessing in relation to a person's obedience and absolute surrender to the will of God.

Perhaps you have been struggling with a mindset of poverty, thinking God's richest blessings belong to others, but somehow you don't deserve them? Today, beloved, I break that lie in Jesus name and ask our heavenly Father to pour out a fresh impartation of blessing and favor upon you.

ALWAYS ROOM IN FATHER'S HOUSE

"Then he asked, 'Whose daughter are you? Please tell me, is there room in your father's house for us to spend the night?'

"'We have plenty of straw and fodder, as well as room for you to spend the night.'" Genesis 24:23, 25

Isn't it wonderful that there is always room in our Father's house for us? His heart is always wide open, and His ear ever attentive to His precious children. Abraham's servant, having made his requests known, received a tremendous blessing as resources were shared and his needs met. Part of the blessing he received was the gift of hospitality. How wonderful to give and receive hospitality. I have often been overwhelmed by the kindness of believers as they have offered their homes as a haven of rest and peace. God has given us the gift of fellowship, kindness, and the opportunity to love and give of ourselves. May we, like Rebekah and her family, be challenged to love without expectation of recognition or reward.

PRAISE GOD FOR HIS LOVING KINDNESS

"Then the man bowed down and worshipped the Lord, saying, 'Praise be to the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the Lord has led me on the journey to the house of my master's relatives.'" Genesis 24:26-27

We cannot help but worship our wonderful Savior as He pours out His kindness upon us. Let's remember to praise the Lord for all His goodness in our lives on a daily basis.

LIVES INTERTWINED

As I follow the story of Rebekah, her brother Laban, and, ultimately, her husband-to-be (Isaac), I am struck by the profound interaction of ordinary people on an extraordinary journey with God, and the manner in which their lives were intertwined and destinies shaped and woven as each person's act of obedience and love along the way helped to release another into the next phase of their God-given calling. God is a brilliant Master Weaver of Kingdom tapestry!

We are all on a journey with Jesus, our paths crossing, helping and serving each other, our destinies intertwined in God, people meeting, blessing, and releasing each other in the things of God. As God directs our steps, we are often unaware of how much our destinies are affected by those we meet. Each of us is necessary, useful, and worthwhile in God's sight. Lay down any sense of worthlessness or rejection at the cross in this moment and accept how lovely you are in Christ. How useful you are to the King of Glory because of your surrendered heart of worship!

BETHSAIDA - HOUSE OF KINDNESS

As I meditate on this Scripture, I am drawn to want to love the way Jesus loves. Our calling is to live a life of love. The pool of Bethsaida was where the crippled man was healed. Bethsaida means "House of Kindness." God's heart was kind towards the crippled man, and, likewise, His heart is still kind toward us today. He takes the things that have wounded and crippled us, and the places that have wasted away in our lives, and completely restores them. Whether it is physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual, Jesus pours himself into us and totally heals us. His compassion releases His glory for healing and wholeness.

Before we can show kindness, we first must receive it. I pray that even as you read this short devotional, that you would experience a fresh outpouring of the kindness of Christ on your own life, and, that through this, you will be healed and refreshed and blessed to become a greater blessing to those around you.

Beauty may be described as a physical or spiritual quality, which brings blessing to those who behold it. As Father looks at you, He sees Jesus, and great beauty is reflected and radiated in you. Child of God, you are beautiful because you are created in His image.

This book is a testimony of Catherine's journey of healing with Jesus, from childhood abuse, domestic violence, alcohol, rape as a young adult, and deliverance from the occult, into the miracle of freedom in Christ. Jim Goll has the following to say in the foreword:

"Written in an amazingly transparent style, Catherine Brown's book The Normal, The Deep and The Crazy adds a much needed gem to the prayer and prophetic movements in these days. I have had the joy of interacting with Catherine over the Internet over the past few years and meeting her in person. I appreciate immensely her humility and genuine heart for Jesus.

"Having been in the prayer and prophetic movement for several years myself, I look for clear voices that attempt to bring forth a word that honors the Lord and edifies and challenges the body of Christ. This is what I found in the ministry of Jesus through this clay vessel. Catherine Brown is a quick learner and humble servant. She is one of the new breed; a faceless generation of Esthers, Daniels, Josephs, and Deborahs whom the Lord is raising up to influence this Impact Generation.

"With a whole heart I gladly endorse the content of this inspiring book. I trust it will do for you what it did for me. After reading The Normal, The Deep and The Crazy, I found myself more in love with our Father God who desires to see restoration happen in the lives of countless numbers of warriors in waiting. I sense the Holy Spirit saying, 'Come out of your caves! I will embrace you! I will restore you! I will revive you! The best is yet ahead of you! Just as I have done in the life of this broken vessel - so I will do for you!'

"To you, the reader, I commend these telling truths from a pilgrim of faith. May the Lord impart to you the spirit of encouragement that all things are possible to those who believe! To you, Catherine, blessings, and thank you."
- Jim W Goll, Co-founder of Ministry to the Nations, Franklin, TN www.ministrytothenations.com

This CD is an EXCELLENT companion to this word! Every time I hear Catherine speak on compassion and mercy, I literally get "choked up" inside. God has truly touched this woman!
