A New Pathway of Thinking
Our Heavenly Father took a stunning risk in creating man and woman in His likeness. It was a stunning risk because He chose to limit Himself and go through trouble by creating us with freedom of choice. I've lived with a health issue the majority of my life which has caused a great deal of pain as well as limitations. It's been an ever-present, but not welcome companion.
A few years ago during prayer, suddenly I said to my Heavenly Father, "Where I've judged You for this, I am very sorry, please forgive me." Immediately I experienced His presence, sweet and clear. Heavenly Father, who is Father of our spirits, affirmed that He accepted my prayer. Instead of focusing on my failure, He instantly moved right on and began building a new pathway of thinking in me. Here is that astonishing conversation.
"When did I do My most amazing work?" The Lord asked me.
"At creation. And when Jesus walked the earth," I replied.
"And what was there an amazing lack of?" He asked.
"People." I replied.
He let that sink in, changing my perspective forever.
Often, we point to creation and Jesus' work on Earth, asking, "Why don't You do that again, Father?" In those times, He was completely free to work. All doors remained opened to Him and He moved freely causing magnificent, creative and redemptive works to become physical realities.
Like Habakkuk, we have a tendency to look at ourselves, our families, our churches, our nations and say, "LORD, I have heard of Your fame; I stand in awe of Your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy" (Habakkuk 3:2).
We Are the Change Agents
Here is good news: We do not have to work harder, pray harder or push harder to cause our Father to hear or to act. Much power, waiting to be unlocked and released, lies inside our own freedom of choice. We are the change agents!
Jesus said, "...I am the door of the sheep" (John 10:7 KJV). To us, He says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me" (Revelation 3:20 KJV). Both these doors are thyra (Strong's G2374). Definitions for thyra include "used of any opening like a door, an entrance, way or passage into; the door of the Kingdom of Heaven (likened to a palace) denotes the conditions which must be complied with in order to be received into the Kingdom of God" (BlueLetterBible.org).
Jesus revealed that the Kingdom of God is inside us (Luke 17:21). When He walked the earth He stayed open as a door—a passageway between Heaven and Earth. He released the Kingdom of God from His Spirit, His inner man, to the outer world. Jesus, as a door, was fully open to our Father in Heaven and fully open to us on Earth. Through Him, Father worked freely. We too are doors. For most of us, our doors are not as open as Jesus' were. The good news is, that ball is in our court.
How to Open Our Doors
1. Keep bringing wounds to Him to heal instead of burying or carrying them, so that our door between Heaven and Earth, inside us, opens wider.
2. Look honestly within and confess the judgments, unforgiveness and bitterness we've held against Him for the troubles we and our families have been through.
3. Comply with conditions for the heavenly Kingdom's palace doors to open by separating ourselves from what our Father calls unclean, so that we can have the deep fellowship with Him that Jesus paid for.
4. Allow Him to build compassion and love that does the best for others. Most of the wounds we've received came from His process through our trials and sufferings, intended to yield compassion and love in us.
Each time we move through this process, our doors open wider!
We don't have to work harder, pray harder or do more. Simply but powerfully, we can prepare the way of the Lord by removing the door blockages in our relationship with our heavenly Father. From there, we begin coming into alignment with our Father in our spirit—to be the open door between Heaven and Earth, which gives Him freedom to move through us and release His power and His creative and redemptive works.
Let's respond in prayer:
Father, thank You for Your graciousness to grant me the right to be Your son/daughter through the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You for not treating me as my sins deserve, but crowning me with love, compassion and honor. Everywhere that I have judged You, holding unforgiveness and bitterness against You, for the long-standing and present pain that I (and/or my family) have endured, I confess it and ask Your forgiveness. I yield these places to You for Your deep and complete restoration. Please fill and seal these places with Your Holy Spirit.
I want to work with You, not against You. Reframe my perspective from trauma to restoration, so that with Your light I can see You and recognize the deep work of compassion and love that You've been doing in my life. I want to be an open door for You to move freely through, releasing the love, hope and faith that sparks miracles, deliverances and healings; drawing people to You and healing the earth. Please rearguard all this progress with Your glory, in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)
