Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:

As many of you are called to venture out into the new, this latest article by Joey LeTourneau will really help you!

Yes, it takes breaking out of our familiar patterns, our boxes, and moving forward into the new as Joey shares here:

When we are looking to see God bring about a new and promised breakthrough in our life, oftentimes, He is waiting for us to break out of the patterns or boxes we have subtly grown to put His voice in within our lives. Perhaps breakthrough breaks our cycles—even good ones like how we hear God—before it breaks our circumstances.

I pray this article by Joey greatly encourages you as you step out into the new! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

"Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; SHALL YOU NOT KNOW IT?" (Isaiah 43:18-19 emphasis mine)

Many of us are waiting for God to bring a big change in our lives. We're often ready and have long been waiting for "something new." But usually, the hardest and most ironic part about something new, is it actually requires something new in us, first.

I believe we need an upgrade in how we hear God. The more we walk with the Lord and time we spend with Him, the more we get to know His voice. The more we know and depend on His voice, the more vital it becomes to big decisions in our lives, to directions we are hearing, and how we transition towards those promises God is leading us into.

However, I think we can grow too comfortable in the way we each hear from the Lord. It is easy to rely not just on His voice, but on how WE are accustomed to hearing Him. Hearing God or listening to His voice is one of the most vital, fresh, life-giving things I have ever known. And because of that, I've learned that it is also an area I have to stay pro-active in upgrading within my life and faith. It is an area in which I can't afford to grow comfortable.

Upgrading our System

Have you ever had to change your password for something on your computer? Why? Often it is because either our password isn't strong enough, we've used the same one for a long time, or, a thief has found what is familiar to us and used that familiarity to hack into our system and is trying to steal our identity. Thieves, or at least the best of them, work in counterfeits. The devil is no different. His lies are only occasionally blatant. Usually, they are counterfeited in a way that only those who know the authentic can sniff them out. Authenticity only comes about through an intimate knowledge or "knowing" if you will. We have to continue to stay so pro-active in our freshness, in our listening and hearing, that God can whisk us away from the place/way we last heard His secrets from, and let Him whisper or write to us in a new way to lead us into our new season.

For instance, in sports, you may start off the game with a set of plays that are working masterfully. The other team can't stop them. But by the second half the opponent has learned what you did well to put them on his/her heels, makes an adjustment, and seeks to use it against you to stifle your progress. A good offense makes their own adjustments pro-actively, keeping it fresh and not allowing the defense to put them in a pattern or cycle of familiarity.

Can't You Talk Louder, God?

Transformed By...

"...be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2)

What part of how we listen to, dream with or follow God needs to be renewed in order to step into the season in which God has invited us? There's an old saying that goes, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten."

For example, many of us have had God whisper purposes, promises and plans into our left ear, and we know His voice well that way. But what if our breakthrough will come when we learn to hear what He is saying in our right ear?

When we are looking to see God bring about a new and promised breakthrough in our life, oftentimes, He is waiting for us to break out of the patterns or boxes we have subtly grown to put His voice in within our lives. Perhaps breakthrough breaks our cycles—even good ones like how we hear God—before it breaks our circumstances.

"It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter." (Proverbs 25:2)

We have to learn to search for the other "concealed," new-password protected parts of what He is saying. Like a treasure map that has confounded us for years only to find out we've spent our whole journey looking at only one side of the map. Perhaps God is wooing us to hear in this season what we couldn't hear in the past. Maybe we've always heard God on channel 4 of the walkie-talkie, but His fresh guidance is actually now waiting to be heard more clearly than ever on channel 8. (Photo via Unsplash)

For instance, if you fly out of Los Angeles, a local man's voice may be the air traffic controller who helps you get in the air and on the right track; but when you reach Sydney, Australia there may be a woman's voice with a completely different accent helping you to land at your promised destination. Sometimes God gets us into the air with one directive, but landing is a whole new story that it is time we learn. None of us like circling over our destination for hours when we could be on the ground enjoying what we've hoped for. And the only thing separating us from such might be a fresh voice.

God is doing a new thing, now it springs forth. Shall we not know it? (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)
