Michael Van Vlymen: "We Will Honor What We Value"

Honor in the Kingdom of God

It was several years ago that I began to learn about honor in the Kingdom of God. Up until that point, I hadn't really thought much about honor concerning life in Christ. The only Scriptures that really came to mind about honor were the verses found in Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:2-3 that talk about showing honor to your father and mother.

I began to go "deeper" into the things of the Kingdom of God—listening more to the ministers of the Gospel who teach about what it means to truly live a life in Christ. In doing so, I began to hear about honor.

I listened to teachers such as Neville Johnson and Bruce Allen who taught the things we honor will be the things that manifest in our lives, and the things we honor will be the things we pursue. I also listened to Justin Abraham, who has shared about how life flows through honor and how it's the currency of Heaven. The Bible says that we should give honor to those whom honor is due (see Romans 13:7).

There are many Scriptures in the Bible that talk about honor and its importance to the Lord. One that shows well the heart of God on this subject is found in the 1st book of Samuel:

"Therefore the LORD God of Israel declares, 'I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father should walk before Me forever'; but now the LORD declares, 'Far be it from Me—for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed.'" (1 Samuel 2:30)

We Will Honor What We Value

Things we do not value, we will not honor or seek to understand. It's as simple as that. If we honor the gift of a spouse or our children, we will spend time with them to better understand that gift. Honor is an expression of our hearts and the desires we have. Honor is something tangible that can be seen. It becomes obvious. The same is true for our relationship with the Lord. If we value and honor our relationship with the Lord, we will desire to UNDERSTAND His heart and spend time with Him. Yes, I believe life does flow through honor.

Several years ago, I was having a bit of a struggle with something the Lord was doing in our lives. There were powerful, supernatural manifestations of God happening in our home and in our lives that I had not been prepared for. I experienced this struggle for awhile. It started when my wife Gordana had received a powerful impartation from the Lord on 11/11/11.

Since that day, whenever she would pray or intercede, she would get swept into the spirit, and I didn't have a grid for it. It was through this that I realized something—you can watch God's supernatural manifestations happen to the people in a prayer line on TV and be excited for those people, but when it happens in your own home with no one around, you may have to go through an adjustment period.

So during this time, I would see the power of God come upon Gordana, and I would see a very, very veiled presence of the angels in the room. I thought to myself, "This isn't right! I should be able to see them clearly but I can't!" I complained to the Lord about this for almost two years. "Why can't I see what's happening?"

"Become a Part of What I'm Doing"

One day, I came into the bedroom and saw my wife in prayer and the room was filled with God's presence and movement from the angels—I just shouted at them, "Show yourselves to me! I'm her husband!" As soon as I said this, a flash of brilliant blue light filled the room, causing both me and the dog to jump. But they still did not reveal themselves to me.

Later in the evening the Lord spoke to me, or rather He spoke to me and I finally listened. "I cannot show you. You do not honor what I am doing in your wife's life. I have proven to you that this is Me through miraculous signs and healings, but you still doubt. If you want to see what she sees as she prays, then join her as she intercedes and become a part of what I'm doing. Then I will show you."

This was an important lesson for me in laying hold of the things I desired of the Lord. I see men and women of God who do mighty exploits and I don't always have a grid for it, but I have learned to trust God and honor His work in their lives and He blesses me.

The things we honor will be the things that manifest in our lives. You can count on it. It is our Father's good pleasure to give us the Kingdom. Honor that. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)
