In my lifetime, I have had the privilege of experiencing several different revivals, including Catch the Fire in Toronto, Brownsville in Pensacola, HRock Church in Pasadena, and most recently Bethel Church in Redding.
These places continue to steward revival and yet it is no secret that there is a greater hunger and anticipation for another "move of God" or "outpouring". There are cities where revival fires are breaking out presently, such as the Fire and Glory Outpouring in San Diego. People are gathering all over, from private homes to stadiums, to contend for a move of God that not only brings salvation, but also transformation.
A Visitation from God
In 2015, the night before Yom Kippur, one of my prophet friends texted me: God wants to visit you, so get ready for a visitation." I wanted to respond, "You are typically the one who receives visitations from God, not me."
I was in Asia during that time, speaking at a conference. After the evening session, I went back to my room and waited with my heart turned towards Him for a couple of hours. Nothing took place. I went to bed and awoke the next morning and remembered a vivid dream God had given me. Through that dream, God spoke to me: "My sons and daughters know how to move in power, and now it is time that My sons and daughters know how to move in power and authority."
Revival is Released by Power
When the Spirit of God moves upon His people (His Church), encounters such as at Pentecost in Acts 2 take place—gifts begin to flow and demonstrations of His power and presence are released. While we love and embrace all the manifestations, the essence of revival is when the Holy Spirit touches the human spirit to awaken us back to our first love. Revival is when the fire of His love consumes us and we love Him back with that same love. Revival is relational...it is personal!
Many books have been written when it comes to this theme: authors have touched on the history, the individuals, sermons, and characteristics of different revivals. However, I would like to highlight one characteristic that bridges revival and reformation together—HOLINESS!
Reformation is Released by Authority
Authority is delegated from God to His children. One major way to walk in authority is to live a life of holiness. I believe there is a new holiness movement that is not based out of religiosity, but instead out of a love-sick generation that will not compromise and choose not to grieve the Holy Spirit. When "holiness" is preached or talked about, I often hear from those in my generation statements like, "That person is religious." Or, when one chooses to abstain from something out of personal conviction, they might say, "Stop being so religious." I do understand where they are coming from, but we must understand that "holiness" is not religious.
1 Peter 1:16 says, "Be holy," not, "Do holy." Holiness is our identity! Out of our identity, we have intimacy with God. The fruit of holiness is purity, keeping us in right relationship with the Father, which ultimately translates to authority!
An Invitation to You
There is an invitation this season to not only to move in greater power, but also in greater authority. When power and authority are coupled together, lasting transformation takes place that impacts all of society and becomes a legacy for generations to come. God is raising up a new breed of revivalists that move in great power and walk in great authority. You are a part of this generation! This is an invitation for you!
I encourage you to take these action steps, so that you may be filled afresh with the Holy Spirit. Cleanse your heart and mind and walk in greater depths of your identity in Christ!
• Ask yourself: Is there anything in my life that is quenching the Holy Spirit?
• Ask yourself: Is there anything in my life that is grieving the Holy Spirit?
• Ask the Holy Spirit to forgive you of sins you may have committed.
• Ask Holy Spirit to renew your mind.
• Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and empower you to walk as Christ did and to walk in greater authority!
Tony Kim, Senior Leader
Tony Kim and his wife Jessica have served ministries, organizations and government sectors mobilizing, training and addressing the "hardest to serve populations". These include social justice causes and issues for over a decade before moving into full-time ministry. In 2009, Tony and Jessica planted Renaissance International in Bakersfield, CA, with an apostolic call to train, equip, mobilize and release the Church to reach the lost and fulfill their destiny to transform every aspect of society through the power of the Holy Spirit. They believe we are the generation to usher in the greatest harvest the world has ever seen. Tony also leads a global relational revival and reformation movement called "ROAR Network."
