Raise Up Your Prophecy

Prophecies, like babies and most any living thing, must be nurtured so that they will come to full fruition at the expected pace. I want to encourage you to raise up your prophecy! Failure to nurture the prophetic word spoken over your life can cause unnecessary delay and heartache, as you wait for the prophecy to manifest from the spirit world into the natural world and grow to full manifestation.

In order to nurture the prophecy, you must do some integral things daily or as often as possible. Each principle is connected and builds upon the others.

Believe the Prophecy

This is the first step in helping to bring your prophetic word to fruition. Scripture says, "...Believe God and you will be established; believe His prophets and you will succeed" (2 Chronicles 20:20). You and I must come into agreement and exercise our faith over the prophetic word, no matter how unlikely or impossible it may seem! The angel said to the virgin Mary, "For with God nothing shall be impossible" (Luke 1:37).

Pray with Thanksgiving

Daily talk to and remind God of His prophetic promise by repeating what He said and giving Him thanks for it in advance. This puts your faith to work and keeps the vision fresh in your mind and heart. Your prayer can begin like this:

"Father, You said that I would have enough resources to provide for my family and to help fund the preaching of the Gospel and expand Your Kingdom. I give You thanks that, even today, resources are coming my way and I am a good steward over them. Thank You for prospering Your servant, Lord. You are not a man that You should lie and all the promises in You are yes and amen, in Jesus' name I pray and believe!"

The Lord has said, "Don't be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayers and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God and the peace of God...stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7 AMP)

Protect the Prophetic Word

Not every person wants your prophetic word to come to pass. Just as Herod did not want the Messiah to be born, others simply don't have the consistent faith to believe with you for it. Friends may have good intentions, but they lack vision to help you nurture your word. You must not allow yourself or others to speak negatively or contrary to what God has already said, "...For he that wavereth is like a wave of the seas driven with wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways" (James 1:6-7).

In Mark Chapter 5:22-43, Jairus had friends who tried to discourage him from believing for his daughter's resurrection from the dead. They said, "Don't bother the Master anymore. She's already dead." Jesus heard them and immediately turned to Jairus and told him, "Do not fear; only believe!" Don't let those around you discourage you from holding on to your promise from God.

Wait for the Fulfillment with Expectancy

We have all reflected on the Christmas story and the miraculous birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The people of Israel had to wait approximately 700 years for the prophecy delivered by the Prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 7:14) of the Messiah coming through a virgin to be fulfilled! Isaiah foretold of a child—a Son—who would be the mighty deliverer of God's people and upon whose shoulders God's Government would rest (Isaiah 9:6).

They had to stay faithful and full of hope that God's words would come to pass for their people, and eventually they did. However, waiting can often be the hardest part of seeing your prophecy come to pass, but we are encouraged to wait for it—and wait we must! "For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry" (Habakkuk 2:3).

When Jesus was born the prophecy was fulfilled, but it was not yet complete. It was in process. Jesus did not come as a mighty conquering warrior, but as a little baby. He still could not heal the lepers, open blind eyes or raise the dead. He couldn't even preach! All He could do was smile and coo in baby talk. His parents had a job to do. They still had to feed Him, clothe Him and protect Jesus from the many dangers of the world. They had to teach Him God's Word and laws. In fact, it wasn't until Jesus was thirty years old that He began His public ministry. All this time...the people were still waiting to be delivered. The ancient prophecy was still in process.

Trust the Process

Likewise, Abraham's and Sarah's prophecy was in process too. Abraham must have realized it when he looked at Ishmael and Isaac fighting in the camp and thought, "My prophecy is here in the earth, but it wasn't supposed to be like this! We are a house divided and there is no peace!" Sarah likely said, "Look at Ishmael and his mother. They are a threat to Isaac's inheritance and destiny. Our prophecy is in peril!" Abraham had to send Hagar and Ishmael away.

The children of Israel had a promise from God to be free from slavery in Egypt and, in fact, they were brought out, but they were still not in the Promised Land. They found themselves in the middle of the desert for much longer than they wanted. Why? They and their prophetic word were still in process.

Your prophecy may still be in process too! I often wondered why in Habakkuk 2 the word "tarry" is used twice in the same sentence of the King James version. It says, "...though the vision tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry." How can that be? The very words seem to contradict one another in that context. Actually, the words used are different in Hebrew, but the English translation simply used the same word! According to Strong's dictionary, the first "tarry" is mahah and means to hesitate, delay, linger or be reluctant, but the second "tarry" is achar which means to procrastinate, be late or hindered. Now the Scripture has clear meaning! Let's look at it again with the proper vocabulary:

"Though the vision is delayed or reluctant to come forth, wait for it, because it will surely come and not be hindered or late."

Glory to God! Some people say it this way, "God may not come when you want Him, but He's always right on time!" If your prophetic word has seemed slow in its arrival and/or maturation, don't be dismayed and don't you dare give up! Your blessing will surely come just as God promised and it will not be late!
