Wade Taylor: "Our Becoming Prophetic"

by Wade Taylor
Nov 16, 2015

Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:

I sure miss my spiritual father, Wade Taylor, and praying daily with him as we often did (he graduated to Heaven in 2012). Yet his words live on in great measure and are full of deep revelation...

Wade was always full of wisdom and was deeply prophetic in nature. He loved spending time in God's presence! This word by Wade is timeless AND a NOW Word to the Body.

Wade shares:

Our being prophetic is more than being able to prophesy. Rather, our being prophetic has to do with an abiding prophetic enabling. This abiding prophetic enabling relates to our having the ability to hear the revelatory word of the Lord, and then respond as the Lord directs...

The intention of the Lord is that we will be properly equipped (our becoming prophetic) to be effective in the outworking of His purposes.

Amen! May this be a great encouragement in your own prophetic journey with the Lord!

There is an urgent need for those who hear from the Lord and then speak only that which they have heard. Thus, each one of us who sincerely desires to be used by the Lord should earnestly seek to become "prophetic" ("the voice of one, crying").

He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,'" as said the prophet (Isaiah). John 1:23

Our being prophetic is more than being able to prophesy. Rather, our being prophetic has to do with an abiding prophetic enabling. This abiding prophetic enabling relates to our having the ability to hear the revelatory word of the Lord, and then respond as the Lord directs.

Learning to "Covet" to Prophesy

Along with this abiding prophetic enabling is the "gift of prophecy," which we should both desire and diligently seek.

For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. 1 Corinthians 14:31

Some say that we should not seek the gifts, but rather the Giver. However, the Word says differently, as we are to seek both:

But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. 1 Corinthians 12:31 (Photo via Wikimedia Commons)

The Old Testament tells us that "thou shall not covet" (Exodus 20:17), but concerning gifts, the New Testament instructs us to "earnestly covet" the gifts. Thus, with intense desire and zeal, we are to seek, or "covet earnestly," to be used in the gifts.

The "more excellent way" is not that there is something better than the gifts. This would be a more excellent "thing." Rather, the "more excellent way" is the manner in which we use the gifts. The prophetic gift is to be used in love, not seeking any personal recognition or gain.

Making Yourself Available to the Lord

Along with our "coveting" to become prophetic, we also should make ourselves available to the Lord as being His voice. We are living in the time of the closing out of the Church Age and the birthing of the Kingdom Age, in which all that Jesus did in a single body during His first coming will again be done through a corporate Body.

At this present time, there is an urgent need for a present-day, corporate "John the Baptist." Therefore, there are those who are becoming "pregnant" with the desire to enter into an abiding, cooperative, prophetic relationship with the Lord.

Those who are responding to the outworking of this abiding prophetic enabling will have a part with the Lord in the closing out of the Church Age, the coming judgments upon the nations, and the birthing of the Kingdom Age.

In each area of ministry, we must be anointed in order to be effective. This "anointing" is the ability to communicate and be productive concerning the realm of the Spirit. If we are anointed, then whatever we do, we will do it better. But for us to be anointed does not just happen. Rather, it must be earnestly coveted, as it is a gifting from the Lord.

Our being prophetic relates to the talents that the Lord gives, which vary, just as we differ in our makeup and abilities. Whether we have five, two, or one (see Matthew 25:14-30), these talents are the spiritual "tools" that are given to help us accomplish the purpose of the Lord. These gifts will increase in quality and effectiveness as we "spend" or use them. (Photo via Pixabay)

This includes the anointing that we have been given for the operation of these gifts. Those who spent, or used, these giftings (talents) that they received were rewarded. Only the one who withheld his talent through fear was judged.

Then he which had received the one talent came and said, "Lord, I knew Thee that Thou art an hard man, reaping where Thou hast not sown, and gathering where Thou hast not (scattered): And I was afraid, and went and hid Thy talent in the earth: lo, there Thou hast that is Thine." His lord answered and said unto him, "Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not (scattered)..." Matthew 25:24-26

How to Maintain and Increase Your Gifting

There is an active warfare against those who have become prophetic because of their effectiveness. The enemy is quick to tell us that it is selfish to seek for ourselves, and that instead, we should be busy doing for others. However, we must consider that we cannot give what we do not have. Thus, we must withstand the enemy, and also spend quality time in the presence of the Lord.

There were ten virgins who received "giftings" from the Lord. Each of these took their lamp (their gifting) and went forth. But only five sought to maintain and increase this gifting (oil = the abiding prophetic enabling).

We have a part in the quality of that which we share or minister. We are "His workmanship, created...unto good works" (Ephesians 2:10). These "good works" are those things which will equip us to properly function in all that the Lord seeks to accomplish through us.

Because the Lord delayed His coming, the foolish virgins did not maintain their supply of oil and were found wanting. When the time came to be lifted into the place of spiritual authority (see Matthew 25:5-10), the foolish were not ready. The Word tells us that we are to "covet earnestly" the gifts. That is, we are to "go after more."

To do this, we must set apart time to wait upon the Lord. As we spend quality time in His presence, the level of our oil (gifting and anointing) will substantially increase. (Photo via Pixabay)

Many are called, but few will pay the price of spending quality time, waiting on the Lord, in order to be chosen. Therefore, we must guard our spirits in order to maintain an openness, or a sensitivity, to the Lord's voice and presence.

The intention of the Lord is that we will be properly equipped (our becoming prophetic) to be effective in the outworking of His purposes.

Therefore, we must seek after and greatly value our being in the place where we are available to be used by the Lord.
