Shalom,
The New Testament was not produced in religious, cultural and historic vacuum. It was born not a part, but from within the Jewish thought-world.
Jews of course, just like Roman and other Pagans around them, were not isolated from other types of religious, cultural and historic context that surrounded and often defined them. It was a complex world of ideas, characters and events.
So, why should every modern Christ-follower be well grounded in the Jewish Background of the New Testament?
Frankly? Because there is no other way to know what Jesus and His apostles really meant.
